Chapter One:

“Shit!” Lily Branum cursed under her breathe when traffic started to slow down on the highway. This was the last thing she needed; she was already late as it was. The day was doomed from the moment she woke up, she shouldn’t have been surprised.

First her alarm clock decided it would be a good idea to die in the middle of night, which led to her sleeping in an hour and a half later than she had planned, giving her minimal time to get herself and the twins ready and fed before taking them to school, which they were five minutes late for. On her way to the bank to take money out to pay the rent with, there was an error with the computers, which were claiming that she only had $87 in her account, when she knew she had at least $1,400. It took an hour and arguing with every clerk in the building before they noticed their mistake. She still wasn’t sure what it was, she just knew they kept apologizing profusely.

“Mommy, did you say a bad word?” her six-year-old daughter Sunniva gasped in shock from the backseat after she had picked the girls up from school and taken them to a late lunch. “You’re not supposed to say bad words!”

“Sorry, honey, mommy didn’t mean to!” Lily apologized while silently wishing her daughter didn’t have such good hearing. That little girl could hear a pin drop across the street.

“Yeah, mommy, you better be sorry! You need a time out though!” Sunniva’s twin sister Grace exclaimed and fell into a fit of giggles with Sunniva joining in on the hysterics.

Lily couldn’t help but laugh with them. Their laughter was one of the few things in the world that could instantly brighten any dark day. “Silly girls. Mommy can’t go in a timeout while she’s driving!”

“Are we almost to auntie Sasha’s? I wanna play with Mandy!” Sunniva squealed with delight at the thought of playing with her best friend. Today was there weekly play date with Lily’s friend Sasha’s five-year-old daughter.

“We should be there soon, baby.”

“Lily, a very special client has requested your company tonight,” her boss Dominic informed her after she had arrived at his house, which served as the escort service’s office, to receive this evening’s assignment after dropping off the girls.

“Alright, give me the details,” she said as she made her way to his permanent mini bar and poured herself a drink of Scotch. She was in desperate need of something to help her relax.

“He wants you to meet him at his beach house at 7pm. He’s paid for the entire night.”

“A beach house? Nice. I haven’t been to one of those in a while. Do you by any chance know if we’ll be going anywhere tonight?”

“I’m almost positive you’ll be staying in for the evening.”

“Alright. Good thing I thought ahead and had Sunni and Gracie stay the night with a friend.”

“Felix is going to drive you. He’ll pick you up in the morning.”

“I can’t drive myself?” She was suddenly very annoyed. It wasn’t uncommon for Dominic to make an escort go to a client via a chauffeur, but she hated not being able to drive herself places.

“No, you can’t. This guy isn’t just some rich nobody. Like I said, he’s a very special client. He gave me specific instructions not to let anyone but Felix and I know the location of his beach house.”

“Alright, fine. So what time will we be leaving?”

“At 6:30. Now go mingle with the other girls to waste time, I’m busy.”

“I love you, too, Dominic!” Lily sarcastically exclaimed and quickly disappeared out of sight towards the back deck where the other girls typically gravitated.

There was always a party of sorts going on at Dominic’s; the place was never lacking an abundance of bodies. Most usually being the escorts, with a few eager clients around, waiting on their next catch. The party scene was never really her thing, so Lily often felt out of place when at the house, but she tried her best to seem friendly and enjoy herself.

“Lily!” Adrienne, one of the other escorts, called out to her once she had stepped out onto the deck.

“Hey, Adrienne. What’s going on around here tonight?”

“Oh, just a typical Friday night party. Dominic insisted that all the girls be here tonight, I guess a bunch of big payers are supposed to show up. I heard you’re going out with a guy, though, how did you manage that?” Adrienne asked with envy in her eyes. Dominic didn’t usually let any of the girls go out with a client when he was having a party with “big payers” as Adrienne called them. Parties like this one were all about showing off, trying to sell yourself off to the highest bidder, essentially. Not the greatest joy in the world, that’s for sure, but according to Dominic it was an important part of the business.

“I have no idea,” she answered truthfully.

“Well, you’re lucky. These parties are so much work!”

“Yeah, they are. Hopefully you’ll catch a good one tonight, though, make it worth your time.”

“Oh, don’t I know it!”

“Hey, I don’t really know what tonight’s plans are, all Dominic said was that this mystery guy and I would most likely be staying in. I’m not sure if what I’m wearing is appropriate or not, and the only other outfit I brought with me is a sun dress. Is there any chance I could borrow an outfit or two from your closet?” Adrienne lived with Dominic almost full time, so she had her own bedroom. It wasn’t uncommon for the girls to borrow clothes from her, since she had an overabundance of designer clothes.

“Yeah, sure, help yourself. Just leave anything with tags still on them, I’m thinking about taking some stuff back.”

“Thank you, A! I better go get ready; it’s almost time to leave!” Lily announced when she noticed it was already 6:15 and ran off to Adrienne’s bedroom to collect something to bring with her.

As the limo turned and pulled into a long driveway, Lily was instantly taken back by the beauty of what surrounded her. This was no ordinary beach house. From the looks of it, it was the only house in the area, as well. Did this mystery client own his own beach?

No matter how many rich men, expensive cars, and over the top mansions she had encountered in her six months of working at the escort service – which is basically just a job for high class hookers, let’s not kid ourselves into thinking otherwise – Lily could never get used to it all. Once she thought she had seen it all, there was always another level of wealth around the corner for her to experience, to taste for a just moment in time. Cruel, really. Nothing but a twisted tease. Being a young, struggling single mother, she knew she would never be able to have any of the things that the men she spent time with had, and she could never provide any of it for Sunniva and Grace.

This place, though. Nothing she could have ever imagined could even come close to comparing to the beauty of it. Part of it was absolutely that it was surrounded by such beautiful scenery; you could see the ocean from the driveway, the backyard was nothing but sand. The house itself was a single story ocean blue Victorian Cottage, but it was huge. Anyone who could manage to own a small piece of heaven like this was rich in more ways than one.

“Excuse me, Lily?” Felix interrupted her from her thoughts.

“We’re here. He’s waiting inside for you, I presume. I’ll be back in the morning for you.”

How awkward, she thought to herself. He made it seem as if he was dropping her off at a girlfriend’s house for a sleepover. Well, the last part was true.

“Alright, see you in the morning,” she answered and made her way out of the limo, straightening her shirt, and collecting her thoughts before making her way up the sandy colored cobblestone walkway to the loud red door that heavily clashed with the rest of the house. It seemed out of place, it didn’t deserve to be a part of this beautiful piece of art. Attached to the door was a note.

Come inside. Please make yourself at home. I apologize, but I had to step out for a moment; something unexpectedly came up at the office that I had to take care of. I will be back by 8pm. I can’t wait to meet you, and again, I’m sorry.

Looking down at her watch, she noticed it was only 7:05. Almost an hour alone in a stranger’s home was not her idea of fun. She couldn’t sit in the limo and wait either, because Felix had left almost the moment she exited the vehicle. He certainly wasn’t the friendliest of Dominic’s hired chauffeurs and he definitely had the least amount of patience. Her mind going back to the current situation, she wondered what could be so important that you have to leave when you’re expecting any company, let alone expecting an escort? Brushing the momentary annoyance aside, she decided to do what the note said. Having a few moments alone to freshen up wasn’t a bad thing after all.

As soon as she stepped inside, her breathe was instantly taken away. The beauty inside was ten times that of the beauty outside. The décor was very minimal, which surprisingly was very appealing in this setting, although she didn’t typically find it so. The lack of a huge number of material objects made the already big house look even bigger. The black leather couches and chairs in the middle of the living room had no pillows to clutter its sleekness, the huge brick fireplace was completely free of any decorations. No rugs were anywhere to be seen across the beautifully dark wooden floors, and the sage-colored walls were completely naked of any photographs or art. There didn’t seem to be a photograph in sight, actually, giving no hint whatsoever as to who the owner was. Perhaps he had just moved in and hadn’t yet had a chance to add his personal touch.

Walking through the living room she found herself staring down at a hallway, whose walls matched that of the living room, which she presumed is where the bathroom would be located, so she made her way through it to find it. She hit the jackpot with the first door she saw, finding a modest sized bathroom, which she assumed to be the guest bathroom.

She locked the door behind her and turned her attention to the reflection staring back at her in the mirror and suddenly was grateful that this guy, whoever he was, had to step out for a few. Her makeup was in definite need of a touchup. After she was pleased with her freshly applied face, she turned her attention to her bag that included the two dresses she had taken from Adrienne’s closet. Should she change into one of them now? After a few moments of debating her decision, she decided to go ahead and change into her own pink sun dress she had brought, thinking it should be appropriate enough for a night in at a beach house.

After she was changed, she took another look at her watch, hoping she had wasted enough time fixing her appearance. It was 7:45; better than she had thought. She made her way out of the bathroom after putting her things back in her bag and decided to check out the view on the deck that she had spied when she first stepped into the house, since the man of the hour had not returned yet. Once again her breathe was taken away as she had stepped out onto the deck. There was no sign of life anywhere for as far as the eye could see, with complete peace and the sound of the ocean crashing against the shore, one of her favorite sounds in the world. Lily closed her eyes and let herself get lost in her surroundings, completely unaware that she was now no longer alone.

“Lily?” His soft-spoken voice somehow almost melted in with the sounds of nature surrounding them, but it was enough to startle her from her own little world she had lost herself in. She turned around to face him, his angelic face certainly fitting in with their surroundings, since it all certainly felt like a piece of heaven. It took her a moment to realize she knew who he was. All she could offer in return was a smile.

“I’m Michael.” He introduced himself and extended his hand towards her. “Wow, you’re even more beautiful than the picture Dominic showed me.”

Chapter Two:

Lily knew she had to act fast. So many thoughts were racing through her mind at once; it was difficult to form even one coherent thought, let alone a reaction where she didn’t come off as a complete idiot. Her heart seemed to be racing a mile a minute; it felt like it was likely to jump straight through her chest at any given moment. Was she dreaming? Was this real? What on Earth would Michael Jackson be doing calling up an escort service? She was tempted to pinch herself, but then she realized he would see that, and would undoubtedly think she was indeed crazy. It seemed like minutes had to have passed by before she finally was able to get a grip of herself, but it must have been only a few seconds, because she couldn’t detect any look on his face that would indicate he had been waiting.

She extended her hand to meet his and smiled once again. “Well, thank you. It’s nice to meet you, Michael.” Yes! She thought to herself, she felt she had hidden what could have without a doubt been one of the most embarrassing moments of her life quite well. He clearly didn’t need to experience another crazed fan, especially in his own home. Lily didn’t consider herself to actually be someone completely star struck by celebrity, but this was Michael Jackson! How many people actually get to come face to face with Michael Jackson in a personal setting? In light of the reason why she was even there to begin with, she knew she had to be professional about this.

“It’s beautiful out here, isn’t it?” he asked, pointing out towards the ocean, after they released their hands from each other. “One could get lost in themselves out here.”

She suddenly felt an overwhelming wave of calmness rush over her body as he spoke. “Yeah, it is. It’s absolutely breathtaking. Is yours the only house on this beach?”

“Yeah, it is. That was my one requirement when I was looking. I actually purchased the four mile stretch of beach that it’s on, to ensure no other houses would be built here.”

“Wow. I can’t even image having that much money, being able to buy anything your heart desires.”

Michael laughed and returned his attention from the scenery to Lily. “It sometimes has it perks.” He smiled, taking in the sight of her from head to toe.

“What’s on the agenda for this evening?”

“Actually, nothing is planned. Let’s just take it by ear.”

“Alright, sounds good,” Lily replied, although thinking it was somewhat strange that nothing was planned. Usually you know exactly what you want to have happen when you hire an escort; at least that’s been her experience with the men she’s spent time with. They all had very specific plans for their time spent together.

“Are you hungry by any chance? I have been craving pizza all day long. There is an amazing place not too far from here that delivers.”

Now that he mentioned it, she was a little hungry. “Yeah, actually, I am kind of hungry now that you mention it. Pizza sounds great, but can you actually do that? Order it, I mean? The delivery person would surely have a heart attack when you answer the door!”

Michael laughed. “So you do know who I am.”

“Well, I think someone would have had to have lived under a rock their entire lives to not know.”

A look of complete sincerity washed over his face. “Thank you for not going completely insane.”

That statement honestly broke her heart. She wondered what it must be like for him, always having to worry about whether someone he comes across is going to freak out by his very presence. Not being able to do everyday mundane tasks that people take for granted such as grocery shopping or just taking a walk around the neighborhood because you might be mobbed by a group of fans. “No problem. If I had done that, I would have been fired. Strictly professional here,” she said, pointing to herself for the last part.

“Good,” he smiled. “And to answer your question about the pizza, no, I can’t. I was kind of actually hoping you wouldn’t mind getting it when it comes?”

“Of course I can. After all, you’ve paid for me until morning. I’m here to do whatever it is you desire.”

“Oh, yeah, that’s right!” he said with a wink.

“How long have you lived here?” Lily asked after Michael had hung up the phone with the pizza place. She had to laugh at the voice he had used to disguise who he was, he sounded like Bart Simpson.

Joining her on the couch, he had a bottle of red wine and two glasses in hand. “I bought it three months ago. I don’t live here full time, though,” he began, as he poured the wine, handing Lily a glass. “It’s mostly just where I come to escape. Surprisingly no one has found out about it yet.”

“What about Neverland? It looks like paradise on Earth from the pictures I’ve seen. I couldn’t imagine wanting to escape if I lived there.”

“It is definitely paradise, and it’s my home, my creation. I love it more than words could describe. Everyone knows about it though, there are constantly helicopters flying over, and there are always so many people there.” He looked out towards the deck, pointing to the ocean, “this place has something Neverland never could. There’s a peacefulness that only being near the ocean can bring.”

“That’s definitely true,” she agreed, taking a sip of her wine. She loved red wine.

“Tell me about yourself, Lily.”

She was never good at revealing details about her life, she unsure what to say. “What do you want to know?”

“I’m very grateful right now that you do what you do, but what brings someone as beautiful as yourself to such a degrading profession?”

“Well,–” before she could answer, to her relief, she was cut off by a knock at the door signaling dinner had arrived. The answer to that question was not one she was comfortable revealing to someone she barely knew. Michael handed her the money and she went to retrieve their meal, returning to her spot on the couch just moments later.

After they were done with dinner, and an entire bottle of wine had been emptied, Michael suggested they try out the hot tub which had just been delivered a few days prior and had yet to be used.

Michael waited in the hot tub while Lily changed in the bathroom. He had taken the liberty of opening another bottle of wine. Lily appeared only a few moments later, joining him in the hot tub, sitting across from him. It was hard for him not to take her right then and there; her silver metallic bikini was doing a number on his body. Somehow he was able to control himself.

“More wine?” he asked, holding out her glass to her.

“Thank you,” she accepted the glass, taking a sip of the liquid. “So, what are your intentions with me tonight, Mr. Jackson? Get me drunk and take advantage of me in his lovely, brand new hot tub of yours?” she asked with a smirk on her face.

“Of course, what else would they be?” he laughed, taking a sip from his own glass.

‘Good,” she winked. “Let’s play a game first.”

He was suddenly curious. “A game?”

“Well, it’s not really a game, per say. I ask you a question, you ask me a question…” she moved her foot to touch his leg, sending a shiver up his body. “I’ll go first,” she offered.

“Alright, let’s play.”

“Have you ever had sex in a public place?”

He laughed. “No, but not for a lack of wanting to. I’m afraid x-rated photos would be printed by the tabloids the very next day. The idea is a major turn on, though,” he admitted. “My turn,” he thought about his question for a moment. “Okay, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done on the job?” he asked, downing the remaining contents of his wine glass.

“Wow, that’s a tough one, there have been some pretty crazy things. I would say…” she paused in thought, “participating in a foursome with a client and his brother and sister-in-law. It was crazy and creepy all in one!” she laughed. “Thankfully, no, the brothers did not touch each other,” she answered, reading the expression of horror on Michael’s face.

“Wow,” he laughed, “that is definitely… wow, that’s gross!”

“Yeah, it is.”

Twenty minutes into their questions game, Lily decided to take control of the situation; their conversation was having an effect on her that she couldn’t shake. She needed more. She moved closer to Michael, slowly, and before it could register in either of their minds what might happen next, she was straddling him, her hands gripping the back of his neck. It was obvious their little game had had an effect on him as well. “What do you want?” she whispered seductively into his ear before looking into his eyes, waiting for his demands, eager to fulfill his desires.

Michael lost himself in her eyes. He’d never seen such a vibrant, beautiful shade of blue. He couldn’t take it anymore; he needed to feel her lips on his. It had been too long since he’d been this close to anyone and his body was aching with desire. “Kiss me,” he demanded, his tone of voice doing crazy things to her body. She loved it when a man spoke to her like that.

She wasted no time, her lips immediately crushing upon his, losing herself in their cloud-like softness. The kiss was electrifying, completely unlike any either of them had ever experienced, sending jolts of electricity through both of their bodies. If they weren’t already intoxicated, and it was possible to get drunk from a kiss, they certainly would be now.

Chapter 3:

Lily was in the middle of an amazing dream when she was woken by a hand roaming down her silk sheet covered thigh, sending chills throughout her body. She decided it would be fun to pretend she was still asleep and see just what Michael was planning on doing, so she kept her eyes shut. She could sense he was lying on his side, leaning towards her, and could feel his eyes burning into her skin, taking in the sight of her partially exposed naked body.

The next thing she knew, he was pushing his hand between her thighs and making his way upwards, making Lily go nuts on the inside with anticipation. Only a few hours earlier she had discovered just how talented this man was with his hands, and just thought of experiencing that talent again made her dizzy with desire.

Right as he was about to reach the promise land, his phone rang, leaving her cold and disappointed when he turned over to answer it.

She screamed in silence. Are you kidding me!?

Lily opened her eyes to see her bed companion for the first time that morning. His back was facing her, and she blushed when she realized he had quite a fair amount of red scratch marks on his skin. His long, dark, curly hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail, and she was slightly tempted to reach over and pull it out so she could see his beautiful curls.

“That’s today?” he asked the person on the other line in a tone indicating he had forgotten whatever it was. “No, no, I remember, it just slipped my mind.”

Breaking her gaze, she turned her attention to the giant black square shaped clock on the wall across from the bed. Eight o’clock. Suddenly feeling too exposed for her liking, and realizing she had no clothes in his bedroom, she decided to get up and get dressed. Knowing Michael would see her walk by him somehow thrilled her.

“Yeah, tell John I’ll be there at ten…” his voice trailed off when his eyes caught her walking by.

Once she had slipped into the outfit she was wearing when she arrived yesterday, she turned her attention to other matters. Gripping the sides of the porcelain sink, she groaned when she came face to face with her reflection in the mirror. Her makeup was frightening, not even a bum on the streets desperate for makeup would adopt her current look. It was smeared in a way that only a night of sex can do. Great sex, she thought to herself. “You look awful, Lil!” She immediately went to work, washing her face, and putting on a fresh coat.

Once she was happy that she no longer looked like a zombie, she grabbed her cell phone from her bag to see if she had missed any calls, which she hadn’t, but did have two unread text messages. The first from Dominic, reminding her that Felix would be by at 9am to pick her up. The next message was from Sasha, letting her know she was taking the girls to the zoo and asking if it would be okay if they spend the night again with Mandy. She texted her back that it was fine and she would call later on in the day to talk to them.

There was a knock at the door, jolting her from her concentration.

“Are you okay? You’ve been in there awhile.”

“Oh, yeah, I’m sorry. I was just redoing my makeup. I’ll be out in a second,” she assured him.

“Oh, no, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I was also gonna ask if you wanted a cup of coffee before Felix comes up pick you up? I just made a pot.”

After putting her cell phone back in her bag, she opened the door. “That would be amazing.”

On the drive back to Dominic’s house, Lily fell asleep.

“Lily, are you sitting down?” her mom’s friend Claire asked over the phone.

“Yeah, why?”she asked, getting worried. Asking someone if they were sitting down was almost always a bad sign.

“I have some awful news, sweetheart. I just got a call from the police, and your parents and Jeremy were in a car accident.”

“What!? Are they okay!?” she got up from the chair she was sitting in and began pacing the kitchen floor, something she tended to do when she was scared, worried, or nervous.

Claire went silent, unable to find the courage to tell her. “Honey,” she began, “your parents didn’t make it.”

“Lily? We’re here, wake up!” an annoyed Felix exclaimed.

“Huh? Oh, sorry,” she apologized, rubbing her face and grabbing her bag, the scene from her dream playing on repeat in her mind.

Walking into Dominic’s office to let him know the night went well, and to get her money, she tried to hide that she was shaken up.

“Are you okay? You look weird.”

She rolled her eyes. Thanks, Dominic, you’re too kind. “I’m fine, I just fell asleep in the limo and had a disturbing dream.”

“Oh, alright,” he shrugged, not really caring. He wasn’t the most caring person in the world she had come to realize. “So, how did the night go?”

“It went great. Before I left, he said something about setting up something again soon.”

“Nice,” he seemed pleased. “Okay, here is your check. I’ll call you to let you know when you have another client.”

“Thanks,” Lily grabbed the check and rushed out of the house. As soon as she was inside the safety of her car, she broke down in tears, burying her face in the steering wheel. She managed to compose herself once her phone started ringing from the passenger seat.

“You must have made a pretty damn good impression last night, because he would like see you again tonight. I gave him your cell number. He’s going to call you to make plans.”

Somehow that made everything better, and she was now extremely happy that Sasha had wanted the girls to stay another night. “Okay, thank you.”

“And good job, Lily. You’re turning out to be my most profitable girl.”

“Oh, hey, I think that might be him on the other line,” she said when she heard a beep and clicked over without warning. Dominic would get over it. “Hello?”

“Lily? This is Michael. Dominic gave me your number. I was wondering what you were doing tonight, because I would really like to see you again.”

“No plans here.”

“Great. Can you come by at five?”

Michael gave her directions to his house, because she hadn’t paid much attention to anything around her on the way there the day before. They ended the phone call with mutual anticipation to the night ahead.

Chapter 4:

Michael couldn’t help but feel as if he’d gone a bit overboard now that he was looking at the set up he had created. He was in the mood for celebrating, for being romantic, though. Glancing down at his cell phone to see the time, he realized she would be there in just twenty minutes.

After doing her hair and makeup, Lily stood in front of her closet for what seemed like hours trying to decide on an outfit. How is it possible to have so many clothes yet absolutely nothing to wear? She never put too much thought into the clothes she was wearing while with a client – just pick something appropriate for the occasion, and that’s that. For some reason it was of the upmost importance at the moment to wear something she thought Michael would love.

Her concentration was interrupted by the phone ringing behind her.

“Mommy!” Sunniva exclaimed with joy.

“Hey, baby! How’s my girl? I miss you!”

“I’m good. Auntie Sasha took us to the zoo today and we saw the elephants and the new baby lion!” the little girl rambled about her day, making Lily smile. Sunniva was definitely the more talkative twin.

“Wow! That sounds like so much fun. I wish I could have been there.”

The little girl sighed. “But mommy it’s okay, we can go again!”

“Yes, sweetie, we can. Is Gracie by you? Can I talk to your sister?”

“Yeah, I love you, mommy! Here is Gracie!”

“Mama Mama! Guess what?” the little girl screamed into the phone.

“What punkin?”

“Auntie Sasha let me pick a prize at the zoo today! I got a stuffed animal penguin and I named him Martin. He’s a baby penguin.”

“Really? That’s so nice of Auntie Sasha. Did you say thank you to her?”

“Of course, Mama! Mandy wants to play Barbies, so I gotta go, k?

Lily had to laugh. Barbies seemed to always win out with Grace. “Okay, sweetie, can you put Auntie
Sasha on the phone?”

“Lily?” Sasha got on the phone.

“Are my girls being good?”

Sasha laughed as if it was the dumbest question ever asked. “They’re angels, as always, don’t worry! So what are you doing tonight?”

“I’m just gonna hang out with a friend.” Sasha didn’t know what it was Lily did. Whenever she would ask her to watch the girls, she would use the excuse that she was going to visit a friend.

“Oh, a guy friend, perhaps?” she asked intrigued. Sasha had been bugging Lily for years now to get back into the dating scene.

“Maybe, maybe not,” she teased. “Actually, yes, he’s really just a friend, though, so don’t put too much thought into it.”

“Alright, alright. Well, I gotta get dinner started, the girls are starving.”

“Okay. Hey, I’ll pick the girls up tomorrow afternoon, if that’s okay?”

“Sounds good. I’ll see you then!”

After hanging up with Sasha, Lily went back to her closet. She was about to pull her hair out in frustration when she remembered she still had Adrienne’s dresses in her bag from the night before, and immediately relief filled her body. She had taken Adrienne’s black, sparkly cocktail dress that she’d been eyeing for weeks now and it was absolutely perfect.

Once dressed, Lily took a final look in the mirror to survey her appearance. Her normally straight brunette hair was in curls, the only makeup she wore was a touch of green eye shadow to bring out her brown eyes and a light coat of tan lip gloss.

Staring at his reflection in the mirror, Michael was pleased. His beautiful curls were down; he remembered Lily commenting the night before how much she liked it that way. He was wearing a red dress shirt, black slacks, and black loafers. Admittedly, he thought he looked rather handsome, which he didn’t normally consider himself.

As he was walking into the living room to check the time, the doorbell rang. Perfect timing, he thought to himself and smiled, and made his way to the front door.

His jaw almost fell to the floor the moment he opened the door and laid his eyes on her. She wasn’t wearing as much makeup as the night before, allowing her natural beauty to shine through. And her dress… certainly left little to the imagination. If he hadn’t spent so much time on the evening, he would have taken her right then and there.

“Wow, you look… stunning!” he managed to say. He was completely transfixed by her.

“Thank you very much. You look amazing yourself! Can I come in…?” she asked after a minute of standing there.

He felt like a moron. “Of course, sorry about that!” he brushed off his embarrassment. “Come in, please.” As she walked passed him, his gaze couldn’t help but land on her backside, his mind immediately landing in the gutter. Calm down, Michael. There is plenty of time for that later!

She turned around, a look of amusement on her face. “What?”

“Oh, nothing, it’s just… that dress is distracting.”

“Oh?” she looked down at it. Was it the sparkles? “Distracting how? Do you not like it? I have another dress in my car, I could change if–”

He cut her off. “Oh, no, I like it very much. Perhaps a little too much, if you know what I mean.”

She could feel her cheeks turning red. Why was she embarrassed? She never embarrassed easily! “Well, that’s good. So you said you planned a surprise?”

“Yes, I do! It’s out back. Are you hungry?”

“Yes, I am,” she said as he grabbed her hand and led her out towards the back deck. “Wow!” she gasped. She turned to him in awe. “Did you do this?”

He nodded his head. “Do you like it?” he asked, clearly proud of his creation and that she seemed to like it.

She took another look around her. There was a huge makeshift dance floor laid on the beach with a table and two chairs on it. The entire outside area was surrounded by tiny white Christmas lights and beautiful red and white roses. “It’s… it’s amazing. How did you get the dance floor?”

“Well, I actually had a friend of mine bring that over.”

“Well, it’s beautiful, Michael.”

“I do have to apologize for one thing, though. I am no gourmet cook. I hope you like KFC?”

Lily burst out laughing. Michael looked at her confused.

“What? Do you not like chicken?” The confusion had turned to panic.

She looked at him and suddenly felt bad. She wasn’t even sure why she had found it funny that he had gotten fried chicken. “Oh, no, Michael I like chicken just fine. KFC is perfect.”

“Are you sure? Because I can order something else, Chinese food, or–”

Lily silently scolded herself. “No, no, KFC is perfect. I’m sorry! I’m not even sure why I laughed. Nervous habit, I suppose.”

Relief was clear on his face. “Okay, good.”

He led her down towards the table on the dance floor and pulled out her seat. Before he sat down, he grabbed the bottle of red wine that was on the table. “Wine, ma’am?”

She couldn’t help but smile. Wine and fried chicken wasn’t a combination she was used to. “I would love some, thank you.”

“You really do look absolutely beautiful tonight, Lily,” he commented once he had taken his seat across from her. “Let’s have a toast,” he said, lifting his own glass.

She followed suit. “A toast to what?”

He thought for a brief moment. “To an amazing evening?”

“To an amazing evening!” she echoed and they clunk their glasses together.

“So tell me more about yourself, Lily,” he asked after they had started to eat.

She still wasn’t sure what to say to that request. “Well… my favorite color is red, my sign is Aquarius. I really don’t know what to say,” she laughed.

He smiled his breathtakingly gorgeous smile. “Do you have any kids?”

This was the first time a client had ever asked her that question. “Yes, actually, I do. I have six year old twin girls.”

“You don’t look old enough to be a mother of six year olds.”

“I had them a week before my eighteenth birthday.”

“I’ve always wanted kids.”

“You’d be an amazing father, I can tell.”

“Well, thank you.”

The conversation quickly turned to other topics, mostly about Michael’s life; how life on tour is, what it’s like onstage, what it’s like to have almost no privacy. Lily absorbed it all like a sponge. His life was amazing, yet sad at the same time.

After they were both done eating, Michael stood up and extended his hand towards Lily. “Would you like to dance?”

A smile crept upon her face. “Seriously, Michael? I’m a horrible dancer,” she warned.

“Nonsense,” he shrugged her warning off. “Come on, it would be a crime not to dance on this beautiful night.” He pointed to the star filled sky.

“There isn’t any music, though.”

He shook his head and laughed. “You think I wouldn’t come prepared?” He picked up a remote that she hadn’t noticed before from the table and with the click of a button music suddenly surrounded them. “See, now there is no excuse!” He extended his hand once again to her, which she accepted.

“Just remember, I gave you fair warning. I’m a horrible dancer among anyone, but I will surely embarrass myself beyond words in the presence of the greatest dancer in the world.”

A small giggle escaped his lips. “Noted,” he smiled, leading her to the other side of the dance floor, spinning her around to face him, and holding her in his arms. Once again, he was staring straight into the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen. “Just move with me, you’ll do just fine,” he whispered into her ear.

As soon as they began to move, the song changed to one she didn’t recognize. The next thing she realized, he was singing to her. “But when I say I love you… Baby, you’ve gotta know that’s for all time…” It made her feel like she was about to melt and she lost herself in his voice. She’d never had a man sing to her, but she’d always imagined it would send her over the edge. And it was.

“Are you trying to seduce me, Mr. Jackson?” she whispered into his ear. “Because if you are, it’s definitely working.”

“Absolutely, Ms. Branum,” he whispered in a tone that would make a nun weak at the knees, before crushing his lips against hers with a passion she’d never experienced before. At that moment, everything around them disappeared and they were the only things in the universe.

Chapter 5:

Still moving to the music and their lips still connected, Michael’s hand inched up slowly from the small of her back to the zipper on her dress, his intentions clear to Lily.

Remembering they were still outside, she pulled away, breaking the kiss. “Out here?” she murmured.

He didn’t seem to pay attention to her question; instead he moved his lips down to her neck, nibbling on her delicate skin, which didn’t help Lily’s dwindling self control. He slowly moved his hand that was holding her zipper down, until her back was almost completely exposed to the night air. It sent a small shiver down her body.

“Wait–” she began to protest. Not because she wanted to stop, but because the memory of him telling her the reason why he could never have sex in public began flashing in her mind.

“Shhh…” he whispered into her ear and then silenced her with his lips.

Any trace of doubt present in her mind was instantly washed away by the electricity flowing through her body when their lips touched. She untangled her arms from around his neck and her hands fell to the buttons on his shirt, unbuttoning each one desperately, needing him to be free of the fabric as soon as possible. His hands moved to her shoulders, pushing her dress straps down as she reached the last button. As if it were choreographed, her dress and his shirt both slipped off at the exact same moment.

Breaking free for air, and to kick her dress to the side, Lily stood there for a moment, in just her black lace panties and matching strapless bra. The cool sea breeze against her skin sent shivers down her back. She looked into his eyes and all she saw was pure desire. Michael quickly embraced her again in his arms, resuming his eager assault on her lips, while expertly removing her bra and tossing it aside.

Catching her by surprise, Michael picked Lily up with one swift move, her legs automatically wrapping around his waist. He began moving towards an oversized sun bed a few feet away, laying her down as soon as they reached their destination, his eyes drinking in the sight before him before laying on top of her, returning his lips to hers.

His hand slid down her stomach and underneath the fabric of her panties, sending a shiver through her body. Touch me, she silently begged. Granting her unspoken request, he began rubbing her most delicate spot, pleased to discover she was already moist for him.

After a few minutes of working his magic, he broke the silence that had fallen over them. “Does that feel good?” he teased, clearly enjoying what he knew he was doing to her. No words were needed; it was obvious by her facial expressions and the moans escaping her that she loved what he was doing.

“Mi-Michael… please,” she pleaded.

“Please what, baby?”

“I can’t take it anymore; I need you to fuck me!”

That was it. He couldn’t hold back anymore, he needed it just as much as she did. Getting up to remove his pants, freeing his aching member, he hovered over her for a moment. Looking down at her exposed body, admiring the sight before him, he was hungry for her. The way the moonlight was dancing on her soft skin was driving him completely wild. Slowly, he slid her panties down her legs, his soft touch sending shivers up Lily’s body. He positioned himself between her thighs and plunged inside her, earning him a gasp of pleasure from Lily. She wrapped her legs around his waist in an effort to pull him closer to her and pause him from going further just yet; she needed a moment for her body to adjust to the giant intruder.

Once she gave him the go ahead, he showed no mercy, driving in and out of her with a force she had never experienced before. He was giving rough sex a whole new meaning; she was never a fan of rough sex, but somehow this was driving her crazy, making her want more. I’m gonna be sore later… she thought to herself more than once, but brushed the thought away almost as soon as it entered her mind.

Before long, Michael could feel her walls closing in around him, and he knew she was close. He wasn’t far behind after she climaxed.

“You are so fucking amazing!” he moaned out through labored breathing before collapsing to her side.

“Wow… that was definitely not like anything I’ve ever experienced before,” Lily said just above a whisper, her breathing still uneven. A huge grin was painted across her face.

“Is that a good thing?” he wondered.

She shook her head yes. “Oh, yes, very good,” she giggled.

After coming down from their sexual high and catching their breath, Michael looked over at Lily, a huge grin plastered across his face.

“What?” she asked curiously.

“You sort of just made one of my fantasies come true.”

“I did? What’s that?”

“Our little game last night… you asked if I’d ever had sex in public. The beach counts as a public place, right? I may own it, but still, it counts, right? I mean, nothing is stopping that boat out there from getting a closer look,” he chuckled, pointing to a boat that wasn’t too far out in the open ocean.

She smiled back at him. “So how was it?”

“The sex or the fact it was outside?”

“Hmm… both,” she answered, touching his hair, twirling it around her fingers.

“The best I’ve ever had,” he answered, leaning in and capturing her kiss again. He meant it to. Michael couldn’t get over how magical kissing her felt. Never before would he have thought it was possible for it to feel this way kissing anyone.

This was beyond comparison the best $10,000 he’d ever spent in one weekend.

“You’re shivering,” he noticed, a touch of concern in his voice. Maybe we should get inside, it is getting quite cold,” Michael suggested.

She hadn’t noticed the temperature until he mentioned it and now it was almost all she could think about. It probably didn’t help that they were both naked. “Yeah, that’s a good idea,” she quickly agreed, moving to get up and retrieve her scattered clothes as he did the same.

Michael walked into the kitchen after they had gotten back inside. “Want some tea or hot chocolate?”

“Wow, I haven’t had hot chocolate in years. It sounds delicious right now, though, I would love some.”

“Wait a minute!” he exclaimed in shock. “You have small children and you haven’t had hot chocolate in years? I find that hard to believe!” He laughed as he got out a pot and the ingredients to make the hot drink.

“Sunniva is allergic to dairy and Gracie hates chocolate, so we never have any in the house,” she replied, making her way to the stove where Michael now was.

“A kid that hates chocolate? That’s… almost a sin!”

Lily let out a small giggle. “I know, right? She’s a freak of nature, I tell ya!”

“Well, maybe Gracie just hasn’t had the right chocolate. I’m sure I could change her mind. I know where to get the world’s best chocolate, I think it would be impossible for her not to fall in love with it,” he said, looking away from the warming milk at Lily for a second, a grin on his face. “Sunniva… I’ve never heard that name before, it’s beautiful. Is it a family name?” he asked while adding the chocolate to the milk.

“No, I found it in a baby name book when I was pregnant and I fell in love with it. She’s not a huge fan of it, though, sadly. She insists on being called Sunni and gets mad if you call her Sunniva. I’m hoping as she gets older she ends up loving it as much as I do. Although, I suppose that’s what I get, because as a kid I used to constantly tell my mother I hated my name and insisted on being called about a hundred other names.”

He laughed. “I actually think a lot of kids go through that.”

Moving his attention back to the pot of Lily’s favorite childhood drink, he continued to stir the remaining bits of unmelted chocolate. She watched him in silence, not once feeling awkward about the quiet that had fallen over them. Normally when with a client, if this happened, she would panic. All she felt in this moment was calmness and… happiness? When he was satisfied that the chocolate was melted, she watched him reach into the cupboard next to the stove and pull out two coffee mugs and fill them with the liquid.

“Let’s go sit on the couch,” he said, handing her one of the giant black mugs and began leading the way.

“This might be a weird question, but… how does our experience together rank with the other guys you’ve been with… on the job?” Michael wondered out loud once they were seated, the question shocking him as soon as it left his mouth. He wasn’t sure how we would react if she told him he wasn’t up there on the list of the greatest, since he had already admitted she was the best he’d ever had, but he wanted to hear her answer regardless.

The question took her by surprise. It’s not like more than a few of the men haven’t asked how she thought they were, but none ever asked in comparison to the others she’d been with. More often than not when they asked, she’d lie to them, telling them they were amazing, when they really weren’t even close. She’d lost count of how many lies she’d told.

“Truthfully?” she asked, taking a sip of the hot liquid.

He silently freaked out. Great, she’s going to tell me it was horrible, or lie to make me feel better. Instantly he regretted even asking the question.

“I would have to say that this has been by far the best experience I’ve had,” she smiled. He could see she was telling the truth, too. A wave of relief washed over him.

“Most of the guys are so high on the fact that they’ve done something as taboo as hire someone for sex that it all seems so unnatural. You, though… you made me forget what actually brought me here to begin with. It’s nice for a change, I have to admit. I feel very comfortable around you.”

He was glad that he made her feel so comfortable; she certainly had the same effect on him. “I want to know you, Lily,” he confessed.

“What do you mean?” she asked confused.

“I want to know everything about you. I never expected to feel a connection with you; I was looking for a connection-free experience when I called Dominic. But I can tell that you’re someone that I want to know.”

Of all things to make her feel flustered, his confession did. “I want to know you, too, Michael.”

His heart fluttered. “Good, I’m glad.”

“When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?” he wondered.

“An artist,” she answered, without a hint of hesitation. “Give me a paint brush and some paint and I can lose myself in my own little world for hours. It’s my escape. My house is filled with my paintings,” she blushed, wondering if he might think that was weird or conceited.

“What kind of paintings do you do?”

“Not one specific kind, I paint anything and everything. I paint a lot of nature scenes, though. When I first saw your beach, one of my first thoughts was that I would love paint it, actually,” she laughed. “I also love to paint my girls. I’ve been painting them since they were babies.”

Setting his cup on the coffee table in front of them, he then moved closer to Lily. He put his hand in her hair and began playing with it. “I would love to see your work sometime. I have a love for art.”

Lily blushed at his gesture. She’d always loved it when people played with her hair. Every so often his hand would lightly brush against her cheek, sending goose bumps all over her body. “Well, then I’ll have to show you sometime, then,” she answered, just above a whisper. It was all that would come out.

“Why do you do this, Lily?” he begged. “I’ve tried to wrap my mind around why someone as… well, amazing and beautiful as you might end up in this line of work and I can’t seem to.”

There was that question again from the night before. “I have my reasons,” she said, looking down at her now empty cup. “I don’t consider myself either amazing or beautiful, but you’d be surprised at how many amazing and beautiful girls do this.”

The look on her face told him she wasn’t comfortable talking about it. As curious as he was, he didn’t want to push her to say anything she didn’t want to. He was about to comment on her declaration that she didn’t see herself as either amazing or beautiful when the sound of a phone ringing interrupted him.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry! I must have forgotten to turn my phone on silent,” Lily blushed apologetically.

“It’s alright,” he assured her. “Go on, answer it, it might be important. I’ll put our cups in the dishwasher.”

She walked over to her purse to see who it was, staring at the name on the screen for a moment. Sasha. Oh no, this can’t be good. “Hello?”

“Lily? I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” she said, hopeful that there might be something for her to actually interrupt.

“No, you didn’t, Sasha,” Lily rolled her eyes. “Is something wrong? Are Sunniva and Gracie okay?”

“Gracie just woke up from a really bad nightmare and she won’t go back to bed until she talks to you.”

Gracie got on the phone. “Mommy?”

“Gracie, sweetie, you had a nightmare? Tell mommy what it was about.”

“It was monsters. They were big and green and scary. I was all alone on the playground at school and they started chasing me. I tried screaming at them to make them go away and I couldn’t. They stole my screams, mommy,” the little girl said through tears and hiccups. “I can’t close my eyes mommy; I’m scared they’ll be there.”

“Sweetheart, it’s alright. Monsters aren’t real, they’re just pretend. And you know what?”

“Even if they were real, they would never ever chase someone as cute as you. You know why, baby?”

“Why, mommy?”

“Because being near such a cute little girl would make them disappear,” Lily repeated the story her dad used to tell her when she was a little girl and scared of monsters. “You know how Sunni is allergic to chocolate? Monsters are allergic to cuteness.”

Michael stood in the entryway to the kitchen, listening to Lily try to calm her daughter down, with a smile on his face. Her tone of voice was so soft and you could feel the love in it. Monsters are allergic to cuteness—he’d have to remember that one.

“I’m gonna pick you up tomorrow afternoon, okay? We’re gonna go grocery shopping and if Auntie Sasha says you’ve been good, you and Sunni can both pick out a treat,” Lily said after she got Gracie calmed down. “I love you, too, baby. Goodnight and sweet dreams.”

“Sorry about that,” she apologized to Michael after hanging up.

“Oh, no, don’t apologize. Is she alright?” he asked concerned.

“Yeah, she is now.”

“Another thing to add to my list of why I think you’re amazing.”

“What’s that?” she asked. “And you have a list going?” she laughed.

“The way you were just now with your daughter on the phone. And no, but I’m thinking about starting one,” he laughed.

She smiled. “So what should we do now?”

Michael looked into her eyes. “I have an idea,” he winked and leaned in, touching his lips to hers. Once again they were greeted by the electricity that seemed to flow between them whenever they were connected.

Chapter 6:

“You slut! You had sex last night!” Sasha exclaimed when Lily arrived at her house the next day to pick the girls up. Thankfully the kids were outside.

Shock spread across Lily’s face. “Excuse me?”

“Don’t play games with me, Lily! I can see it in your face, you’re practically glowing! It’s the I-just-had-sex glow! Come on, I need details! Who was it? You said the guy you were going to hang out with last night was just a friend!”

“Umm…” Lily was unsure what to say. “He is just a friend… and it’s not someone you know,” Lily answered, not exactly telling the whole truth. Sasha most definitely knew who Michael was. All you had to do was look at her cd collection to realize that.

Sasha was clearly not buying her story. “Is that all you’re going to give me, you hooch? Obviously he’s more than just a friend!”

Lily laughed. “Well, at this exact moment, he is just a friend.”

“A friend who happens to be a great lay?”

“Yes, indeed he is that.” Lily blushed, remembering the last two nights. “But that’s really all there is to tell, Sasha.”

“I’ve never seen you like this, Lily. And I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time you’ve had sex in the five years we’ve known each other! …Wait, it’s not, is it?” she demanded, horrified at the thought. Lily had never been open about her sex life with anyone, not even Sasha who she told almost everything to.

Lily had to try hard to contain her laughter. If she only knew! “No, it’s not,” she assured her.

“Well, that’s a relief! Look, even though you say this guy is just a friend–which, by the way, I am not buying–I think you should hold onto him. Any guy who can make you radiate happiness like you are right now is definitely worth keeping around. And if anyone deserves some happiness, it’s you.”

“I’ll keep that in mind, Sasha. The ball is really in his court with this one, though.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to spare even one tiny detail?” she begged.

“Hmm… no, I’ll pass,” Lily teased. “So how were the girls?” she asked, trying to change the subject.

“Complete angels. They always are, you know that.”

“Was Gracie alright after we got off the phone last night?”

“Yeah, she was fine. She passed out within ten minutes.”

Sunniva ran into the room. “Mommy, mommy! Gracie said we’re going grocery shopping! Are we, are we?” she exclaimed with hopeful eyes.

“Yes, we are, honey. Go tell Gracie you girls need to help Mandy pick up any messes you guys might have made and then you need to get your stuff together. We’ll go as soon as you’re done, okay?”

Sasha laughed as they watched the little girl run out of the room excited. “I think yours are the only kids on earth who love to go grocery shopping.”

“It’s ‘cause I bribe them,” Lily joked. “They’ll do anything, including endure an hour at the grocery store, for some candy!”

“You’re so bad!” Sasha laughed again. “Sure you don’t want to stay for lunch?”

“I’d love to, but we can’t. I have to get the kitchen stocked up and spend some quality mommy-daughter time with the girls.”

Changing the subject completely, Sasha was curious. “Have you gone to see Jeremy recently?”

The question took Lily by surprise. “No,” she answered, just above a whisper. “Does that make me a horrible person, Sasha? Because it sure feels like it.”

“No, sweetheart, it doesn’t,” she assured her friend, pulling her into a hug. “There is still hope, though, right? That he’ll wake up?”

“Michael, you’re not paying attention!” his friend John exclaimed, annoyed. The two of them were supposed to be working on a song for John to sing to his bride at his upcoming wedding and for the past two hours Michael had been repeatedly drifting off into his own world. “Are you alright?”

“What?” He was startled. “Oh, yeah, I’m fine. Sorry I keep spacing out. I have something on my mind.”

“Something… or someone?” John teased.

His eyes brightened. “Someone, actually.”

“Oh, yeah? Who?”

“You don’t know her. I actually only just met her a few days ago.”

“Is she someone special?”

A smile crept upon Michael’s face. “I think so, yeah. It’s weird, John. I’ve spent less than twenty-four hours with her and it feels weird being away from her.” He tapped his pen on his pad of paper nervously.

Michael looked up at his friend. “Yeah. I don’t know how to explain it, but being around her was like a breath of fresh air. I’ve never connected to someone as fast as I did with her.”

“Are you gonna see her again?”

“I hope so,” he answered. “Now let’s stop talking about me. We have a song to write!”

After giving the girls a bath and putting them to bed, Lily went into the kitchen to make some tea. She had a nightly ritual when she was home after the girls went to bed; make a cup of tea and sit out on the deck looking up at the stars. Sometimes she’d ask God why he’s done the things he has, knowing she would never get an answer. There was no reason for any of it. Her life was turned upside down and there was absolutely no reason for it.

While waiting for the water to boil, Lily’s mind raced with thoughts. Ever since Sasha had mentioned Jeremy earlier, the guilt she normally felt had been intensified. All she could think about was the little boy, all alone. She hadn’t visited him in almost three weeks. He didn’t deserve that, but it was too painful.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the whistle of the tea kettle. She pushed everything out of her mind and poured her tea cup.

On her way out to the deck, she felt her phone vibrate from her pocket.

“Hello?” she said, not paying attention to who it was before.

“Hello there. Is it okay that I called you?”

Her mood was instantly brightened at the sound of his voice. “Of course it is, Michael.”

“What are you doing on this beautiful night?” he wondered.

“Well, I just put the girls to bed. Now I’m sitting on the deck, drinking some tea, and now talking to you. What are you up to?”

“Sitting on the deck staring at the ocean,” he answered. “It’s weird not having you here tonight,” he admitted.

“I have to admit it feels weird not being there. I miss the sound of the ocean.”

“What are you doing next weekend?”

“I’m not sure. As of right now I don’t have anything planned, why?”

He hesitated for a minute, unsure if he should really ask what he wanted to. Was it inappropriate to ask the escort you had hired that weekend to your house with her children the next weekend? It wasn’t his fault that he happened to meet such an interesting person in such a… weird way, was it?

“I was wondering if you—and your girls, of course—would be interested in coming to Neverland. I’m sure your girls would love it.”

“That’s a really nice offer, Michael, but I don’t know. If Dominic ever found out—“

Michael interrupted her before she could finish. “He won’t find out. I promise.”

Lily did have to admit the offer was tempting. How could Michael be sure that Dominic wouldn’t find out, though? She didn’t even want to think about what his reaction would be if he did.

“Come on. Wouldn’t your girls love it? Free rides, animals, and all the candy they could ever want.”

“They would love it, Michael. It’s tempting. Can I have a day to think about it?”

“Of course,” he replied.
