Chapter 1

*RING RING…..RING RING*
“What?” I picked up the phone
“Um…how did you know it was me?” Michael answered with a small smirk on his face.
“Because I just called you, and you didn’t answer, so I was just sitting here waiting to see if you would call back.” I replied rolling my eyes.
It was the first time all week Michael called back after leaving him two messages earlier on. Michael had been working on his second solo album for the past nine months so when I did get a chance to hear from him it was brief.
“Oh, well do you want to come over and watch a movie tonight? Mother and Joseph aren’t going to be here later, and I thought since I haven’t seen you in a while it would be good to get together….so, what do you say?”
Excitement started to get the best of me “Of course! It’s been like four months since I’ve last seen you.”

With Michael Jackson being the most famous and talented entertainer his schedule was always hectic. Our friendship made it through his stardom some how, and between the breaks of it all, we still where good friends with a small problem. I was in love with him! Weather he knew it or not, I couldn’t just shy away my feelings for him. Out of the four years we’ve known each other, I couldn’t remember a time where I didn’t have feelings for him.
“Ok, then it’s a date! Just me, you, muscles and Brooke! It’s gonna be….”
“Brooke?” I stared into space. I knew there was a catch. It was just too good to be true to begin with.
“Yes Brooke…you know, Brooke Shields.” Michael cringed to what she say at the fact Brooke would would be joining them for the evening.
“M?” (No response) “Marri?”
“Ok Michael, I’d love for Brooke to join us.” I forced a smile on my face and a tone in my voice that a kid could even tell I was lying.

“Ok, please be ready by 7:30, I’ll have my limo driver to come pick you up then. Oh, and Janet says hi!”
I looked at the clock. It was only 3:20, meaning I had four hours to waste. I looked at myself in the mirror and ran my fingers though my thick wavy hair. ‘What to wear? What to do with my hair?’ Then the thought of Brooke Shields being there running across my mind only made me uninterested in how I was going to look. She was a model…..a very beautiful model. How could I compare to that?
“Tell Donk I said hello!” Donk was a nickname that Michael and his brothers had given Janet when she was younger, mostly they called her that but I only did every once in a while.
“Hey M, do me a favor will you?” I sat and listened, waiting for him to give me instructions. “Yea Michael?”
“Remember the numbers in this date…..August 29, 1958.” The phone line went dead. “Michael?” I repeated what he said. “August 29, 1958. His birthday?” I looked at the present month on the calendar…. June 28, 1982. Two months until his 25th birthday. I shrugged it off. With Michael, there was always something secretive he was doing, but hey, I had to admit that it was actually fun trying to guess what his motives where. However, I wasn’t going to call him back. With me being a little upset at him, I decided cleaning up would be worth my time at the moment.

6:45 PM I was already dressed. I stood looking in the mirror at my caramel complexion, full pouted lips and big dark brown eyes. “No need for make-up! Brooke will have that covered.” I laughed to myself. My 5’7 frame stood in my small bathroom looking in the full length mirror, I checked myself over in over again. Hair pulled into a ponytail, jeans, quarter length jacket with a tank top on underneath. I walked over by the tub where my heels where and stepped into them. “Ughhh…too tall.” I ran into my room and put on my flats.

I took one last look in the mirror and snatched my hair out of a ponytail and let my thick wavy hair flow down my back.I walked out into the living room of my apartment. “Perfume, I forgot to put on perfume.” Just then a knock came from the other side of my door. I looked at my watch. It was only 7 pm. I opened the door to find the one and only Michael Jackson with his hands shoved into his pockets! No shades, no bodyguards, and no fans chasing him.

“Girl, I know you so well!” I couldn’t help but to grin and jump up into his arms. “I told you to be ready at 7:30, and what do you do? You’re ready at 7! Talk about not following rules!” We both laughed as I pulled back and guided him into the apartment. “Actually, I knew you would be here before 7:30, that’s why I’m ready so early. And are you crazy coming out while it’s still light outside with no disguise? You must like being mobbed!” I leaned against the open door and couldn’t help but stare. He was dressed in black jeans with a light blue dress shirt.

“Did you hear me M? I said you smell good.” Michael waved his hand in my face.
“Huh? Oh, your probably smelling my detergent, I didn’t get a chance to put on perfume. Where’s Brooke?” I held my breath to hear what he was going to say about Brooke absence. I could feel a grin forming up in the corners of my mouth.“She’s going to meet us at my house.” He said grabbing my hand and leading me out the door. “I have your purse, just lock the door.” I let out a deep breath and locked the door.
With me staying only on the first floor, we didn’t have far to walk to the parking lot.

“Oh my gosh. Michael, did you drive over here… all by yourself?” We jumped into LaToya’s Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Michael spoke in his soft shy voice. “You make it should like I can’t drive.”I gapped my mouth opened. “You can’t!” Michael couldn’t help but to crack up laughing.
From a distance, I knew it was coming, and Michael knew it was coming. Fans across the street began running towards the car as he pulled out from the apartment complex. “MICHAELLLLL, MICHAELLLLL!!!!! WE LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!!” “HEY…..IT’S MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!”Michael kept his eyes on the road, but shot a glance out the window every few seconds to look at his fans.

Chapter 2

(Music blasting through the radio)

Can you feel it!
Can you feel it!!
Can you feel it!!!

All the colors of the world should be
Lovin’ each other whole heartedly
Yes, it’s all right
Take my message to you brother
And tell him twice……..

The music cut from the Jacksons 1980 hit ‘Can you feel it’ to Michael’s 1978 hit ‘Girlfriend’ written by songwriter Paul McCartney.

Girlfriend
I’m gonna tell your boyfriend (yeah)
Tell him (woo hoo)
Exactly what we’re doing (yeah!)
T ell him what you do to me
Late at night when the wind is free….

Michael and I both looked at each other and smiled. When ‘Girlfriend’ first came out, we both use to stand in front of each other singing and dancing seeing who could do what better than the other.

The ride from my apartment complex to Michael’s home was just a mere 15 minutes. Once the gates swung open and Michael pulled in, the guards carefully secured the lot for anyone trying trespass.
“Where’s Randy and Janet…..What?” I realized he was staring at me once we were in the house.
Michael raised his eyebrows. “Huh?”
“You were staring at me.”
He bit his bottom lip. “No I wasn’t.” He kept a shy devilish grin on his face.
“Yea you were. Do you see something you like?” I couldn’t help but to mess with him.
“Yea, that box of KFC chicken Tess is putting on the table!” (Tess was the chef) Michael walked past me laughing. I turned around to see Tess laughing alone with Michael and Emma the maid. I couldn’t help but to laugh myself.

We sat down at the table while Michael started to dig into the box of chicken. “M, do you have anything planned for you birthday this week?” I grabbed the biggest piece of chicken out of the box and bit into it. “Well, I don’t know just yet. Are you going to be here? Because if you are, maybe you can I could go do something?”
Michael reached for a napkin as we sat side by side at the table. “Ok, that’s fine with me, I don’t think I have anything planned. We’re finished working on my album, so now we’re just trying to find a release date. Guess what we’re going to call it?” I shrugged.
“Thriller!” He turned and wiped a crumb from my lip. I looked and him and froze. “Sorry, you had a little something right there.” He touched the top of my lips with his thumb. For once I started to feel that maybe Michael did have a little interest in me after all. After nights and nights of conversations on the phone, I felt that Michael and I had an attraction towards each other. But he on the other had been shy to show his feelings. For the first time ever, I could see that Michael knew something was there. Still touching my lips, he ran his thumb down to my chin and one of his oh so heart melting smiles came across his face. And then his eyes saw something else.

“Brooke!” His hand dropped from face as he stood up to greet his second guest. I stood as well and waited for us to be introduced. Brooke entered the house after being escorted in by Emma. She had on a cute creamed flower dress that came just above her knees. Her perfected hair was curled and came flowing around her neck while her make up lighted her face. “Hello Michael.” Her eyes seemed to sparkle as she watched Michael walk over to her. She glanced at me once Michael ended their embrace.
“Brooke, this is M. M, this is Brooke Shields.” I extended my hand. Her skin was even soft.
“Hi Brooke, it’s a pleasure to meet you!” I couldn’t help but to stare at her as well as Michael did. Ever since I’ve known Michael, the only female I’ve ever heard him talk about wanting to meet was Brooke Shields.
“Ladies, I’ll be back, I’m going to go get the movie started.” Michael excused himself in a shy tone and left the room.
“We were just eating some chicken Brooke, would you like a piece?” I sat back down to finish my half eaten chicken. Brooke continued to stand. “Oh no….my manager says it isn’t good for me. Thank you though.” She turned to the maid “Um, I would like a glass of water please.”

Looking at her I knew there was no way Michael would ever choose me over that. She was just perfect. Her teeth, her smile, her hair, her everything!!!

“What is the M for if you don’t mind me asking?” Brooke had just turned 18 a little while earlier that year, but something about her made her seem more matured.
“M is for Marri. It’s kind of funny, because when Michael and I first met, he couldn’t pronounce my name correctly, so he just started calling me M for short.” I decided I had had enough of the chicken and put it down. I wiped my face and stood as Michael re-entered the dining room with his avatar shades on and muscles draped over his shoulders and around his waist. I smiled, Brooke shivered just at the sight of muscles.

Later that night while watching one of Michael’s favorite movies E.T, I felt myself getting sleepy. I sat slouched down on a bean bag in the Jackson’s family room while it was dark. The only light that was on came from the TV. Brooke seemed nice, but for some reason, she seemed to act as if she was scared of the room being too dark. This gave her a reason to snuggle close under Michael while I felt like a dog stuck outside looking in. The whole night turned out not to be what I expected. I felt as if with Brooke around, Michael wouldn’t even take a second look at me.

I picked muscles up as he laid on the floor and began to walk towards the door. Before Michael could even say anything I threw a “going to the restroom” over my shoulders. I walked down the long hallway with muscles wrapped around me now. But instead of going to the restroom, I found myself walking into The Jacksons trophy room like I always did because of something new was always being added.. From 1969 to 1980 pictures of Michael and his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy were scattered across the wall of their Encino home. The platinum and gold records hung on the wall in a glass case. My eyes only continue to wander to the pictures of Michael. Here I was in the house of someone most girls would kill for, and he was in his room cuddled with someone else. “I guess famous people only fall for other famous people!”

I thought about when Michael and I first met, and smiled to myself. He was 20, and I had just turned 18 on that 3rd of July. One summer in 78’ my sister and I where in New York for a vacation when we heard that Michael Jackson was in town shooting a movie by the name of ‘The Wiz.’

My sister Gabby who was madly in love with Michael at the time somehow had gotten the information to the club they often went to during the night, and were determined to meet him that night. We walked in the club by the name of “Thirsty”, me following behind her through the loud music and the bodies bumping up against each other dancing to the random music that night. “I think I see him!!” Gabby squealed. With Gabby being older, I stuck close by her and watched as she did what she did best. We walked over to a booth were Michael sat with his sister Latoya and 5 other gawking females. “Michael!!! Hi…..I’m Gabby, your biggest fan!” I stood motionless as I watched him smile at Gabby. His smile to me was worth more than words itself. “Hi, Gabby, it’s nice to me you.” He looked at me and gave a nod waiting for me to introduce myself.
“Hel, hell, hello, Mr. Michael Jackson.” Michael who was still smiling smile got even wider, only making me smile as big as I could.
Laughter roared from the girls at the table. “Did you see her teeth?” I heard one whispering. “Get lost quarter gap!” I covered my mouth and began to run out to the nearest exit. Once I was outside, I stood on the corner and watched the busy streets of New York. I let out a deep breath and covered my face with my hand as I felt tears falling from my eyes. I stood outside for about ten minutes waiting on Gabby to walk out.
“Don’t worry sis, I took care of those girls for you!” I looked at her through my swollen eyes, and wanted to scream. Instead, I just turned and began walking back to our hotel. “I knew we shouldn’t have tried to come here Gabby! That was so fucking embarrassing!” I walked as fast as I could, leaving Gabby behind trying to catch up with me. I wouldn’t even turn to look at her because my feelings were so hurt. “Marri…..wait! You don’t have to worry about them. He left the table if that makes you feel any better!”I turned into opening of our hotel we were staying.
“He who?”
“Michael Jackson. When he saw how rude those girls were, he left the table and pulled me to the side.” Gabby had caught up with me then as we walked up towards the elevators together. Still wiping my face, I said “Well, what did he want?” Seeing that I was now ok, Gabby flipped her hair and put her hands on her hips. “I’m not telling you, you should have stayed!!!”
Once off the elevator I hurried of to our room and shut the door in Gabby’s face. “Hey, don’t be mad at me.”She said opening the door then throwing a piece a paper at me. “What’s this?” I opened it up to find a number and his signature: (383)289-2937, MJ. “You have got to be kidding me?!” Gabby shook her head. “As much as I would love to snatch that paper out of your hand and call him myself, I bullshit you not! Beside, he looks like he would be into you more than me. The two of you are about the same age anyway.” Gabby was 26. I looked at the number and the signature again for about five minutes, then balled up the piece of paper and put it on the nightstand beside the hotel bed. Turning around to make sure Gabby hadn’t seen me do it, I notice she had made her way into the bathroom. Clothes tossed to the floor, I began picking up behind her thinking of my mother. I searched for the phone wondering when would be a good time to call her since we haven’t heard from her in two days. I dropped the clothes back to the floor then walked towards the phone flopping down in the chair next to the window were I could see the skyline of New York. The phone just so happened to ring as I started to pick it up. “Mama!! I was wondering when you were going to call….. Hello?” There was no response. All I could here was a soft laughter on the other end. “Hello?”
“Um, well, I’m um….” A soft voice from the other end came through the phone stumbling over their words. “Um, I’m looking for Marry. Is she there?” (Long pause)
“It’s Marri (pronouncing my name right), and this is she. May I ask whose calling?”
“Yes, I met you about fifteen minutes ago. Um, my name is Michael.” By this time I was standing.
“Michael? Jackson?”
“Eeh, Yes, Michael Jackson. Um, I just was calling to make sure you were ok from what just happened. Your sister had given me your number, hope you don’t mind me checking on you, but….I didn’t mean to bother you either.” My mouth was open to speak, but words just wouldn’t come out. His voice, even when he wasn’t singing made music to my ears.
“Well, if you’re ever in L.A. you can um give me a call if you’d like.” Still, words just would not come from my mouth. Waiting for a response out of me, Michael thought I was just some crazed fan. “Uh, it was nice talking to you ma’am…” My senses came back to me.
“Wait!!! I…I live in L.A.” I let out a breath and waited on his response.
“Really? Wow, what are the odds?” I could hear him smiling through the phone as he spoke.
I think about the night very often, and how things had gotten this far between the two of us. I remember staying on the phone for over an hour with him that night, and to my surprise, he called me up again the next afternoon and invited my sister and I to have lunch with him and Latoya. Soon after, when I returned to LA the calls continued, but it wasn’t until months later we reunited in LA. That same year, I later had gotten braces for my own personal reasons, even after Michael told me that I didn’t need them.

Coming back to reality, I looked at muscles who had stopped moving and was beginning to get a little heavy. “I’d rather be on a date with you then to go through this.” I walked out of the room and headed for Michael’s room where muscles cage was located. Not really having to use the restroom, I headed back to the family room. The lights were on and to my surprise, no movie, no Michael, and no Brooke.

“Michael?” I stood in the doorway looking around the room. The maid and chef had left for the evening leaving only the three of us. I hoped Michael would answer before I would have to call for Brooke. “Brooke!?” I shook my head for even thinking about calling out her name. The light on the back property were on which lead me outside towards the pool. There I saw Michael and Brooke talking and holding hands. I stood trying to figure out what was going on until I saw Brooke leaning towards Michael for a kiss. I stood there with my heart pounding, feeling like it was ready to explode. Brooke pulled back giving Michael time to catch his breath. He looked up and double took after seeing me standing there watching him and Brooke. I turned to walk back into the house. “M!!” I stopped and stood there, not turning around to see what Michael wanted. “Wait….I’ll be there in a second.” I nodded my head, feeling embarrassed and hurt. I walked back into the house and looked around. ‘What am I doing here? I can’t be friends with someone that I like, and they not like me back.’ I looked at the clock….10:15, that was my que to leave. I walked out of the front door and ran into Randy who was coming into the house. “Hey Marri, you leaving?” Keeping my head down, I nodded. “Yea, it’s getting kind of late.” I said trying to clear my throat and turning to walk away. “Where’s Michael? Do you need a ride home?” Luckily the limo driver was still there, so Randy made sure I had a ride home.

I climbed into the limo and turned to look out the window once it started to roll and watched as we drove off the Jackson’s Encino property.

Chapter 3

Five days later, July 3rd was Marri’s birthday. I laid in bed wondering why I haven’t heard from her since earlier that week. I was very angry for her leaving, and I was also angry with Randy for letting her leave. I knew I was going to call her and wish her a happy birthday, but I didn’t know if she would speak to me or not after what happened. ‘Maybe she’d hang up in my face! She’s done it before, so I wouldn’t doubt it.’
I heard mother and Joseph downstairs talking to Donk, so I decided to just stay in my room until I didn’t hear Joseph any more.

About fifteen minutes later, I heard someone coming up the stairs. I peeked my head out the door. “Psssss, Donk!” I shut the door laughing and waited for her to come to my room. “Psssss, Donk!” I did it again but was startled by the sight of Joseph. “You hiding in ya room boy?” He said laughing. I opened the door and walked out, not caring that he was talking to me. “Michael!” Joseph yelled from behind me.
“Yes, Joseph?” I turned around without an emotion in my face. Joseph looked at me and laughed. “You something else, you know that?” I shrugged, and walked downstairs.
I saw Janet and wanted to congratulate her on her up coming album ‘Janet Jackson’. “Donkey” I went and sat beside her on the couch taking her in my arms. “I’m so proud of you Donk. First the Jackson 5, then my solo career, and now Janet Jackson…. what’s next for us Jackson’s?” Janet laughed “Joseph trying to make an album of his own!” I rolled my eyes at what Janet had just said. “Oh God, that would be going to far!” Janet yelped with laughter, while I held my stomach cracking up. “What are you two laughing at?” Mother asked walking into the living room.
“Nothing” We both answered together. Mother sat on the couch across from us as Latoya walked in through the front door.
“Hello family!" She paused Looking at mother and Janet first before she spoke. "Hey Michael, um, did something happen between you and Marri the other night?” Mother frowned. “Toya!” Toya walked over to the desk checking to see if she had gotten any mail. “What? I see no one else would ask, so I did!”
I looked at my two sisters, and then to mother. They all had a look of concern on their faces.
“Who said something?”
“Randy” they all said waiting for an answer. I stood up. “Nothing happened.” By now, Joseph was coming back downstairs about to leave. I walked past him and back into my room to get out of my pajamas.

I walked in my room to my personal phone line ringing. I picked up, pausing first while sitting down on the bed. “Happy Birthday M.” I laid back as I listened to silence for a few seconds. “August 25, 1958! Your phone number is 829-1958, only you Michael!” M said sounding astounded. Hearing her voice made me feel at ease. “When did you figure it out?” Ideas of where to take her for her birthday came across my mind. “When I called your old number and the operator said that it had been disconnected. Actually, I really thought you had gotten it changed so that I wouldn’t call you anymore, but that’s when I remembered what you said about the numbers in your birthday.” She sounded so innocent.
“Why would I want for you to not call anymore? We’ve been friends for a very long time M, I’d hate for that to happen.” I could “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder playing in her background.
“I don’t know, it’s just what I thought at that moment.” There was a pause, and then M laughed. “What’s funny?” Through her laughter, she mimicked me “‘Happy Birthday M!’… You didn’t even know it was me…..I could have been someone else?” Hearing her laugh always warmed my heart. But I was still being serious. “No, actually you’re the only with my new number, that’s how I knew it was you.” Her laugh ceased. “Really?” I nodded “Yea, well you and my attorney John, but he normally calls me after 12 on Saturday’s.” I looked at the clock, seeing how my longer I had before he finally called. “Put some clothes on, and I’ll be over there in an hour.” “Ok. And Michael” I was about to hand the phone up. “Yea” She thought for a moment. “Remember this, I should never have to be the one to call you on my birthday. Ok?” I rolled my eyes and smiled. “Whatever girl, I’ll see you in a minute.” We hung up the phone.

I continued to smile at the fact that I had spoken with her. But I still felt bad about the other night. It wasn’t something that I wanted her to see because I knew it would hurt her. Not that I knew it was going to happen, but the look on her face as she turned to go back into the house really hurt me. But I planned on making it up to her today. Ever since I met Marri, I always felt like I could be myself. There are times were I’m still shy, but with her, I feel like I don’t have to hide who I am. Everyone knows the singer Michael Jackson, but not the person Michael Jackson, except for her. Of course my family knows me, but I sometime felt distant from them. The brothers where out of the house, only Randy came back every once in a while to stay. The girls (Toya and Janet), mother, Joseph and me of course where still in the house. Music was my first escape, and Marri was my second.

Once I arrived to M’s apartment, I had my limo driver help me to bring groceries up to her front door. “Thanks Dave, I think I’m going to spend sometime over here, so you can just take the rest of the day off.” I said lightly watching him sit the last of the groceries down. He nodded. “Ok Mr. Jackson. You have a good one.” “Wait…how do I look?” I asked fixing my shades on my face. Dave gave me a thumbs up not really caring and turned to leave. I turned the door knob as I normally did since M always left the door unlocked when she knew I was coming. I opened the door and rounded the corner only to find an empty living room. I walked to M’s bedroom, and found her with a headset on listening to music. With her back turned wearing her summer shorts, and a tank top, I had to admit that she looked good slowly moving her hips from side to side.... until she broke out doing the cabbage patch.

I stood leaning against the door frame with my arms folded laughing as hard as I could because I knew she couldn’t hear me. She moved around in a circle while still doing the cabbage patch. The circle she moved in turned her around to face me, stopping her right in the middle of what she was doing. Her mouth fell open. I motioned for her to turn off her headset. “Seriously M? The cabbage patch?” I felt like a little school boy laughing at something I knew not to laugh at. M took off her headset and rolled her eyes “Shut up Michael, everyone isn’t an innovator like you!” I grabbed her by her hand and pulled her into the living room. “Help me with these groceries girl.” She had a befuddle look on her face. “What are the groceries for?” She said looking at the bags of groceries sitting outside of the door. I grabbed two in each hand while she grabbed the other three. “Well, I wanted to do something special for you on your birthday, so I’m going to cook you breakfast!” M turned and looked at the clock. It was 10:15. I could tell she was thinking before she spoke. “I didn’t know you could cook.” I bit my lip, trying to covering up my smile. “You do know how to cook, right?”
“No.” She squinted her eyes as a questionable look came upon her face. “So why are you trying to experiment now?” I turned to face her. “Relax, I’m not going poison you. It’s just something I want to do for you.” I said through a smile, trying to sound convincing. God knew I had know clue as to what I was doing. I just hoped she wouldn’t get sick.

After about 15 minutes later and burning my hand a few times, breakfast was ready. I walked over to the table where M was sitting, and sat her plate in front of her. She didn’t say anything, she just looked. “We can always go get something to eat Michael.” She said picking up the fork not know where to start. The bacon was burnt, the eggs overcooked, and the pancakes looked like two smashed charcoals. She began with the eggs. “Where’s your plate.” I stood watching her eat, knowing she didn’t won’t too. “Are you serious? Girl, it’s not my birthday! Enjoy!” I said walking over to the couch to watch TV. I loved to mess with her. But at the same time when there were things I wanted to try, I could only do them with her because she knew outside of everything I had done for me, there were certain things that I wanted to try on my own.

I laughed as I watched M look like a kid being told to eat their vegetables. She finally got up and walked towards me with a fork full of pancakes. “You should try your own cooking. These pancakes are delicious!” She said sarcastically. Trying to shove the fork in my mouth, I grabbed her arm. “No, I cooked it especially for you.” By now we both were laughing because we knew neither one of us wanted to eat the food. We wrestled each other down trying to avoid the fork getting put in one or the other mouth. “Michael!” I began tickling her. “Michael no!” She screamed with laughter “Stopppp” We both had fell back on the couch one on top of the other. I watched as she dropped the fork while we continued to laugh, then I looked at her realizing how close up she was to me. M body was so soft and warm, only making me not want to let her go, but I did. I jumped up, knocking her over.

“Ouch!” The look of confusion came across her face again. “Um--- sorry.” I didn’t know what to do except for excuse myself to the restroom after helping her up. I knew M liked me, and I knew if I tried to have anything with her, our relationship probably wouldn’t be up to her expectations. And her friendship was something I couldn't lose. I paced the bathroom ‘Oh God’ I felt nervous all of a sudden. ‘Get it together 'Get it together'. I walked out of the bathroom trying to ignore what just happened.

“Do you want to come to the recording studio with me tomorrow?” M was back in the kitchen dumping the food off of her plate. She shrugged. “Yea, I guess.” I grabbed some carrots and ranch out of the ridge and began eating. I watched her as she moved around the kitchen. She looked so beautiful. “I’m sorry about the other night M.” M stopped. “Ok!” She said without looking at me. I could tell me bringing it up upset her. I put my carrot down and walked up behind her, mashing out bodies together. M slightly turned her head still not able to see me while I reached into my pocket. I pulled out a 14 karat gold necklace and brought it over her head to put around her neck. Her look of frustration quickly exited as she became excited. She lifted her hair off her neck as I linked the chain together. “I know you thought I didn’t get you anything.” M turned around and jumped in my arms. I hugged her, but this time, I couldn’t let go. I continued to hug her as I felt restlessly emotional and I didn’t know why. All I could do was hold her tighter and tighter.

“Michael? Are you ok?” M whispered in my ear. All I managed was to get out was a soft “Yea.”
She knew me too well, so she said nothing else. She held me as tight as I held her.
Once I let her go, M pulled back and looked at me. But her look turned into a stare, which made her laugh. “What.” She shook her head. “Uh, you have a little ranch on your face.” She said pointing to it. Teasing her, I said “Well, lick it off!” Her eyes immediately bugged out as if to say ‘What the hell?’ but to my surprise, she did it anyways.

Chapter 4

My eyebrows went up. “Did you just lick my face? You’re a freak aren’t you?” M backed away and laughed. “You told me to! And I’m not a freak, I’m a lady, just like you a gentleman.” I bit my lip as I looked her up and down. “You’d do anything I say wouldn’t you!” M smacked her lips. “You’re a little cocky aren’t you?” We slowly started walking back towards the living room. “Cocky?” I said surprised at her for saying that. Cocky was not my persona. “Well, you called me a freak. And by the way, that was the worst breakfast ever. Next time, I’ll show you how it’s really done. However, I did appreciate it though.” She bashfully said looking at me. Instead of sitting down with me, M pulled out a photo album. “Am I in there?” I asked. She smiled, showing a dimple on each cheek. “Oh course Michael Jackson is in here! What kind of album would it be if you weren't in here?” I laughed as M sat down beside me, close enough to were we both could see the pictures.

The first picture shown was of her and I four years ago after meeting in New York in 78’. I rolled my eyes. ‘God I was ugly’ I said to myself. “Michael, you look so handsome!” M said staring at the photo. I didn’t say anything, I just sat and look. The next few pictures were of M and her family, and some of her from high school. I watched as she flipped the pages. “Wait, go back!” She turned back the page. “Is that you M?” It was a picture of her with a guy that I’ve never seen or heard her talk about. Out of the time that I’ve known her, I never knew for her to have had a boyfriend. “Yea that was me back in high school. He was my date for prom.” She turned the page again. “Oh, do you remember this picture?” It was of us at a swimming party her sister had thrown. We laughed. “Yea, you didn’t have a swim suite so you jumped in with your clothes on.” M shook her head as she remembered that day.

Just then the phone rang. I answered. “Hello?” (Pause) “Yes this is Michael. I’m fine how about you Ms. Coleman?” I turned to M and mouthed that her mother was on the phone. “Yes ma’am I will. Tell her I said hi. Ok, bye!” I hung up “What did she say?” I was a little confused about what I heard Gabby saying in the end as the phone hung up. “She said happy birthday from her and Gabby.” M nodded. “What did Gabby say? I know she said something smart!” I shrugged, trying to figure out if I heard her right. “She goes ‘Is that Michael over there? Oh I hope she get some tonight!’ I said imitating her. “I think that’s what she said.” I looked over at M as she covered her mouth and fell over laughing.

The next day it was Sunday evening July 4th. I normally did a ritual of fasting and dancing in the studio, but I decided against it since Marri was coming over. Starting Monday morning, things were going to be very busy for me, so I was trying to spend as much time with M as I could. My family didn’t celebrate holidays, but every once in a while the family would all come to the Encino home to hang around like today. I on the other had been in the studio on the property with Quincy for about two hours working on editing one of the singles ‘Human Nature’ for my upcoming album.

Looking Out
Across the Night-Time
The City Winks A Sleepless Eye
Hear Her Voice
Shake My Window
Sweet Seducing Sighs

Get Me Out
Into the Night-Time
Four Walls Won't Hold Me Tonight
If This Town
Is Just an Apple
Then Let Me Take A Bite

If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way
If They Say -
Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way

Just then, M walked into the studio smiling after seeing me in the booth. I continued to sing.

Reaching Out
To Touch A Stranger
Electric Eyes Are Everywhere
See That Girl
She Knows I'm Watching
She Likes The Way I Stare

I couldn’t help but to feel as if I was singing to her as she looked at me through the glass. Upon seeing M I wanted to run out to her.

If They Say -Why, Why, Tell 'Em That Is Human Nature
Why, Why, Does He Do Me That Way…

“Hold it .” I said. Quincy cut the track off. “Do you want to stop Michael?” I took my earphones off and walked out of the booth. “Yea, could we finish up tomorrow?” Quincy walked over to Marri and hugged her. “Alright alright, I get the hint, you two to be left alone. Tomorrow at one is fine Michael, and don’t forget we have an interview with ‘Rolling Stone’ tomorrow at nine in the morning.” “Ok Q.” Quincy turned to gather his things and then left. I turned to look at M and hugged her. I could smell the scent of sweet pea on her soft skin. She was wearing wide leg blue jeans, and a red spaghetti strap shirt and her thick hair pulled back in a bun. I grabbed her hand and we walked over to the house where everyone else sat talking. "I thought you were finished with the album?" I sighed. "I'm never finished until I'm satisfied." We walked past the gates of the animals I kept of the property. "Hey Louie." I said touching my llama as I walked past him.

I opened the front door to the house. “Hi everybody!” M said walking in. I think she was more excited about seeing my family than I was. Everyone spoke, including Joseph. All of my brothers and sisters along with their families watched as Marri and I walked across the living room. “You look cute!” Latoya said hugging her. Janet walked up, “Move Toya!” she said hugging M next. "We're all so glad to see you Marri." My mother walked towards her. "Hi mother Katherine. I'm glad to see everyone of you too!"

Later that night, everyone was still standing around talking and laughing. I stood by Marlon talking and laughing as I watched Marri talk to Rebbie and Randy. Randy turned and hugged Marri. I stared. “Mike? You ok?” I looked at Marlon. “I know you not mad because Randy just hugged her?” I shook my head. “What makes you think I’m mad?” “You stopped laughing once you saw him hugging her. If he wasn’t you brother, I’d say you might go break his neck.” I shrugged. “ I can't help it. I know that she likes me, everyone tells me that she does, but I’ve just never heard her imply it though.” M soon walked over joining Marlon and I. “What are you two talking about?” We both shook our heads trying to change the subject.

“There’s a marathon of the ‘Three Stooges’ about to come on, you want to go to my room and watch?” Marlon snapped his fingers “Yea, Three Stooges? I love that show.” I put my hand up. “I was talking about just me and M.” I grabbed M by her hand as I always did and led her to my room leaving Marlon downstairs. "You gone do me like that Michael?" He said joking around.
One o'clock that morning the marathon was still going. I had given M a pair of my pajamas earlier to get comfortable while we laid and watched TV on the floor. I was surprised to see her still hanging in there. “I thought you would be sleep by now.” I said pinching her cheeks. “Yea, but I should have gone home along time ago when everyone else left. I’m too tired to try and leave now.” She said with a groggily voice. “Stay here then!” The idea suddenly came to mind. “I can’t, I have to get back home.” I stared as her eyes fluttered to stay opened. “I’ve never had a sleep over before. Please.” She held her head up, thinking apprehensively. “No, what are you parents going to say?” I looked at her “We're not in high school girl, we’re grown! So please?” We both laughed. “Ok I guess.” I looked her and was happy that she agreed. I had to admit she looked really good wearing my clothes. She had no bra on underneath leaving her a little exposed, and me wondering.
An hour later as the marathon had gone off, I looked over at M who was slightly snoring. I turned the TV off and turned over lying directly next to her. I was content with everything that was going on between us. Since the time I’ve known her, she has always made me feel better.

The next morning, I scampered across my room trying to finish getting dressed as M still lay asleep. I looked at the clock. 7:30 am. I wanted to wake her, but I didn’t want for her to leave. I wanted her to still be here when I got back. I argued myself up and down to leave out of the house as the limo and my bodyguards waited downstairs for me. ‘Just leave!’ I paced. I stopped and looked at myself in the mirror. I had on a white shirt, military style jacket, with black slack and my loafers. I thought for a moment. ‘Just do it.’ I turned and kneeled down beside M. She was so beautiful sleeping. I stared for what seemed like forever. And then I kissed her lips. I rose up, but then stopped myself. I leaned to kiss her again, this time trying to wake her. I laughed to myself, because even asleep, she was a good kisser. Her lips were still soft. I turned to leave quickly wondering what the day would bring between us. I walked out the front door passing M’s car, and jumped into the limo with four of my bodyguards. “Good morning Mr. Jackson.” “Good morning.” I said quietly. We soon exited the Encino property while I sat looking up to my room’s window and saw M standing there watching as I left.

Human Nature Empty

Chapter 5

I jumped after hearing the front door shut. “Michael?” I looked around his room for him, but all I found was nothing. I cursed myself realizing he had just left. I finally pulled myself up to go over to the window and watch Michael getting into the limo with his bodyguards, and then they departed the property. I knew the next few days were going to be optimistic. With the week starting off and his busy schedule, there was no telling when I would see or hear from Michael. Heavily sighing, I said to myself “I hate Monday mornings.” I turned away from the window to clean up the mess before gathering my own things to leave. I walked down the stairs to see no one was left in the Jackson’s house except for the maids while everyone else were off doing their own thing. I jumped in my car and blasted the music on the radio and sang along to get my morning started.

Later that night, still after not hearing from Michael, I called my sister. “What happened?” Gabby said answering the phone. “Huh? What makes you think something happened?” I closed the blinds in my apartment and then took a seat on the couch. “I can hear it in your voice. Did you get some?” I rolled my eyes. “No, and by the way, he heard you.” She smacked her lips. “So! Maybe that will get him to thinking about making a move or something.” I sat back, but suddenly jolted up after remembering something. “Wait a minute!” I paused. “Maybe it was a dream.” I shook my head. “What is it? What was a dream?” Gabby said overwhelmingly. I sat, trying to recollect my thoughts.

“I think I had a dream that Michael kissed me. And it……it felt real.” By this time I could tell that Gabby had stopped doing whatever it was she was doing and now she was all ears. “You think? Either you had the dream or not Marri! Did you two do it in the dream?” She brought me out of my thoughts about the dream. “What is up with you wanting us to have sex?” I wanted to hear her explanation. “You two have known each other for a while now, your a virgin, and he acts like one, so you two might as well do it with each other! Do you want me to talk to him for you?” I laughed “Oh hell no! So you can scare him off and ruin our friendship. NO!” We both laughed “Well sis…. I tried. I’m about to get off this phone and get some rest, I have to work tomorrow. Love you, talk to you later!” “Bye!”

I hung up the phone and sat in a daze. ‘I swear that dream felt real.’ The only thing I could remember was him kneeling down and kissing me twice while everything else about the dream was obscured. ‘Maybe it’s a sign or something.’ “Ugggghhhh! Why couldn’t it have been real?” I said aloud. I looked at the clock. “So much for hearing from Michael!” It was now 10:30. I rolled my eyes as I could feel myself growing a tad bit angry. “Damn it Michael. Where are you?” Just then the phone rang “YESSSSS!!!” I yelled out jumping to answer the phone. I cleared my throat trying to compose myself “Hello?” “What are you doing girl?” Came a soft familiar voice. I smiled bashfully biting my lip so he couldn’t tell that I was smiling. “Oh nothing, I was about to go to bed. How was your day?” I could hear Michael getting out of his clothes. He paused for a few seconds. “Ok….but um….the thing that happened this morning, I just want.…” Carefully listening, I said “What happened this morning?” Michael paused again, but quickly responded. “Oh, um, the maids. They were a little loud when I left, sorry if they woke you.” I shook my head. “Oh no, they didn’t. But listen, I had the weirdest dream ever about us this morning. You were kneeling down and you kissed me. Isn’t that crazy?” He barely laughed, and then spoke under his breath “Yea, that is crazy.” He sounded disappointed.

“You ok Michael?” I could tell he was fighting with his conscience. “Yea, I just had a long day is all. I’m just tired. His voice was barley above a whisper. “Ok, well, get some rest then. And I’ll talk to you later. Goodnight Michael.” As much as I wanted for him to get his rest, I didn’t won’t for us to get off of the phone. But I couldn’t be selfish. “Goodnight M.”

Two weeks later, I had barely seen Michael. I myself had been busy getting ready for my last semester of college that coming fall, while Michael had been getting ready to promote his album and shooting music videos. Although Michael and I hadn’t seen each other as much, we did talk every night. I felt that things between him and I were progressing. That led to me knowing that I was doing something right! I felt confident that things could only get better from this point.

One night after coming in from working out at the local gym down the street, I came home ready to jump into a hot shower to get the sweat off me. Trying to get everything situated before heading to my room and talking to Michael, I turned on my answering machine and began cleaning up the kitchen.
1st message: “Hey Marri, this is your mother calling to check on you. Call me sweetie.”
2nd message: “Ms. Coleman? This is the University of California, Los Angeles. Please give us a call back at 310-387-1738 as soon as possible.
3rd message: “M! I need for you to meet me at Browning Park at 9. Please. I’ll be there waiting on you.”

I stopped cleaning upon hearing Michael’s voice. I looked at the clock seeing that it was only 8:27. Not knowing what the situation was, I hurried out of the apartment and was on my way. Browning Park was about 15 minutes away going the opposite direction of Michael’s house. I arrived only to nothing but empty benches and tables, and the sound of water coming from the bay a half of a mile down the road. I got out of my car and sat on top of the hood to wait for Michael.

“You shouldn’t be out here by yourself!” I jumped, nearly making myself slide off the car. “Michael! Where did you come from?” Michael walked through the grass and came to sit beside me. “I was over by that tree waiting for you.” He pointed chewing his gum. I could see the distress on his face. “What’s wrong? And how did you get out here?” He sucked on his bottom lip taking off his shades. “I walked.” I grabbed him by his chin. “From your house?” His house was about thirty minutes away. “No, I was about a block away when I told my limo driver to let me out, so I came here and used a pay phone to call you. I just needed to get away. Away from everyone else, producers, my manager, my attorney. I almost feel as if I have a weight on my shoulders.” Michael looked at me with a faint smile then hugged me while whispering in my ear. “And then you came. Thank you for coming M.” I touched Michael’s soft face and looked into his chocolate eyes. “You’re welcome. Always remember Michael, when ever you need me, just call….” Michael cut in, “Just call your name, and you’ll be there. Yea yea, I remember the song.” I pushed him over as we both sat laughing.

I laid my head on his shoulder. “M…. Can I tell you something?” I nodded knowing he was about to change the mood. “Yea” He cleared his throat. “Do you know you snore like a man?” My head popped up. “I do not!” All of Michael’s teeth became visible as he laughed. “Yes you do. When you stayed the night, at first I could stand it because it was light and cute, but then somewhere in the middle of the night I wanted to throw a pillow over your head!” I stood up from the car while still looking at Michael and trying to hold my laughter. “You know, you’re not as innocent as everyone thinks you are!” His elbows rested on his knees “But I am. And I’m charming! That is what turns the ladies on!” Laughter filled the air as we cracked up. “People are going to think we’re drunk sounding the way we sound.”

Chapter 6

Michael laughter died out as I could tell he began thinking about something. “What are you thinking bout?” He sighed and shook his head. “Nothing. Well… I don’t really know how to ask, but um- um, are you a virgin? I looked at him shocked that he would ask me something like that. “Why do you ask that?” I didn’t answer the question. I looked up in the sky and waited for his response. “I don’t know, just asking.” I could feel Michael eyes on me. He fumbled with his hands. “Was it with the guy you went to prom with?” My eyes caught his. “No. It was no one. I’m still a virgin.” After hearing that, Michael looked pleased. “Are you?” I asked. He gave me a questionable look. “Isn’t it obvious?” Neither one of us had ever talked about our virginity with each other before now. However, as long we had known each other we knew what our preferences were.

“There’s a charity banquet in downtown LA tomorrow. Everyone is going to be there.” Michael initiated. I looked over at him. “Are you telling or asking me to come?” The cool breeze of the night air hit us a few times as we sat looking at each other. “Asking. I’m asking you to be my date.” My face felt flushed as I was surprised he asked me to be his date instead. “Well, I’ve never been to anything like that before, but yes. Yes, I would love to be your date.” I threw my arms around his neck and he grabbed me by my waist pulling me closer to him. There I stood in his arms, feeling a step closer to being his girl. I wanted to tell Michael how I felt, but sometimes with him I just didn’t know. I felt like I couldn’t make a move unless he did, which I usually took as a signal.

The next day started off better than it had all week. Michael had his limo along with Janet and Latoya to pick me up so the three of us could go shopping for the banquet. “This is so exciting! Marri, I’m so glad that Michael asked you to be his date!” Janet exclaimed sitting next to me. “Michael has never really had a girlfriend before, so you’ll have to excuse us.” Came from Latoya sitting on the opposite side of Janet and I. “Well, we’re not to that stage of boyfriend and girlfriend yet, but soon I hope.” After some time I sat excluded from the conversation of Janet and Latoya while looking out the window. I prayed that things between us would turn out for the better, and that our friendship would grow as it had been in the past few years. I sighed heavily. “Michael likes you a lot, so don’t worry. I remember after meeting you and your sister in New York, Michael couldn’t stop talking about you. It’s been that way ever since.” I smiled at Latoya as she reached over and touched my arm.

We pulled into the parking lot to the boutique of the girl’s choice. I jumped out of the car once the door was opened and found a pay phone. “I’ll be inside in a few minutes.” I said to Janet and Latoya as they walked ahead of me. I deposited my changed and began dialing. “Hello.” I smiled after hearing him answer. “Hey! I was just calling to check on you and to say hi.” I felt for the first time nervousness envelope me. Michael giggled. “Hi. I’m just getting some things together. Are the girl’s taking care of you?” I turned around to look at the sunny scenery of Los Angeles as a breath escaped my lips. “Yea, they’re taking real good care of me.” I leaned against the wall to hold my balance. “Good. Call me if you need me. And I – I can’t wait to see you tonight.” Feeling like there was nothing that could ruin this night, I said a thank you to myself. “Ok. I can’t wait to see you either Michael. Bye!” “Bye.” I hung up the phone and ran into the boutique ready for the event to take place.

Six hours later, it was now 5:30 and we were back at the Jackson’s Encino property dressed and ready to go. Their personal hair stylist had spent hours on fixing the three of hour heads while Michael stayed upstairs with his own personal stylist. I had on an all black silk Le Femme elegant gown with the back out while my wavy hair had been replaced with burl curls. I looked in the mirror at myself. Stunned at how gorgeous I looked, my faced glowed; now all I needed was Michael beside me.

Randy who was also joining us came down the stairs with Michael’s personal stylist. “You ladies ready?” Randy said clapping his hands. I looked up the stairs and waited for Michael to descend. “Wait, where’s Michael?” Janet and Latoya turned around to hear Randy’s response. He looked as if he didn’t know how to answer. “Uh, he’s on the phone, but he said for you to ride in the limo with us and he’ll catch up later.” I wasn’t content with the idea, but I waited to see the reason for the separation on our way to the charity banquet.

Once we arrived, it took Michael no time arriving after us. However, Michael seemed distraught upon getting out of his limo. I followed the girls and Randy as we had been escorted through the crowd and to a reserved table. I sat down beside Randy while the girls sat on the other side. I watched Michael with his shades on walking in putting on a half smile for the cameras. Something was wrong. Once he neared us, Michael and Randy looked at each other as Michael finally took his seat on the opposite side of the table, far away from me. Not wanting to make a scene, I sat back and closed my mouth as the banquet began.

Forty-five minutes later, I was already ready to go. After trying to get his attention on numerous accounts, anger had really gotten the best of me as I watch Michael look on at the other celebrities while they mingled amongst themselves. I walked over and sat in the empty chair next to him. “Michael, look at me!” He tired to smile at me before putting his head down and fumbling with his hands. “What is your problem? What did I do to you?” I could read the sorrowful look on his face even through his glasses. “Michael Jackson!” we both looked up to a journalist and her photographer headed our way. “Michael, it’s so good to see you tonight. Who is this? Is she your date?” Michael looked at the woman and spoke softer than I ever heard him talk before. “Uh- no, she’s….she’s, like a little sister to me.” I stared at him stunned. ‘Little sister?’ I looked at Randy, Janet and Latoya as the stared at me with their mouths open not believing what Michael had just said. He then got up and walked away from the table, leaving us and the journalist bewildered.

Human Nature Empty
PostSubject: Re: Human Nature   Human Nature EmptyMay 8th 2010, 11:08 am

Chapter 7

“Is she your date?” I felt pressured into answering the question. “Uh-no, she’s….she’s like a little sister to me.” I said uneasily. From the shocked absorbencies on Randy’s, my sister’s and Marri’s face, I couldn’t stay there any longer. I got up as fast as I could and walked away, passing through everyone’s inner circle as they talked. “Michael!” “Hey Michael!” “Michael Jackson!” in different unison was all I heard trying to escape the crowded area.

I walked into the bathroom and began crying. ‘What was I thinking? I knew I shouldn’t have listened to them!’ I took my sunglasses off and looked at my reflection in the mirror. I hated myself for what I had just done. I knew that after telling everyone that M was going to be my date, things wouldn’t turn out right. Of course my family loved the idea, but my attorney, my adviser, and my manager thought otherwise. ‘Mike, if your fans see you with some random woman… think about it, their going to be heart broken!’ ‘Are you kidding? Why? Who is she? Do you know how this is going to look?’ I had even gotten a call from Brooke Shields manager. ‘Hey Michael, this is Larry. Look, I heard around about the girl you want to take to the charity banquet. Take Brooke instead man. Do you know how many of your fans will be upset? Who knows, your next album might not even make it because of this! It’s all about PR man! ’

I didn’t know how I was going to explain it to M. I just hoped she would understandingly forgive me. After about fifteen minutes of getting myself together, I walked back to an empty table. I felt indignant rising within myself. I quickly walked outside and got into my limo where my bodyguards awaited. I told my driver to take me back to my house to see if the others had arrived there already.

Once the limo pulled into the driveway I jumped out and ran into the house. Everyone sat looking at me with pissed off looks on their faces; mother, Joseph, Randy, Latoya and Janet. Not sweet Janet, she looked the most pissed off at me. And even the maid walked past me mumbling something under her breath. They had been there maybe fifteen minutes before I walked in and word had already gotten out. Joseph shook his head at me. “Boy, what the hell was you thinking?” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Shut up Joseph!” Everyone less enthused about what I was saying rolled their eyes as I spoke. “Listen, you know I didn’t mean any harm to her. Randy, I even told you what was going on before you even left for the banquet!” Still, no one spoke. They just shook their heads at me. I turned and headed for the door. “I’ll be back!” I said walking out of the front door to get back into the limo determined to get Marri to listen to me. I still didn’t know what I would say to her, but all I knew was I had to tell her what really was the cause of this. Once I arrived, I left my driver and bodyguards in the limo as I had done all night. I walked to the door ready to knock. I checked the door knob first, only to find it unlocked. ‘Yes.’ I walked in and found M sitting down on the couch waiting for me.

She looked up at me with red eyes and mixed emotions set on her face. “M…..I’m sorry. You have to believe me, please.” Her eyes were piercing mine. She stood up. “Sorry? Sorry Michael? That’s all you have to say?” My soft voice was pleading with her. “Well what do you want me to say M?” She walked closer to me as if she wanted to hit me. “An explanation would be nice! Explain, please explain Michael!” I put my hands up to my head. “You don’t understand M! I try to be a nice person and do the right things, and all I ever do is screw up. I never meant to hurt anyone or anything.” “Don’t understand? You asked me to be your date which I gladly accepted, and you act as if you don’t won’t to be seen with me and tell some woman that I’m like a little sister to you. Then you have the audacity to say I don’t understand! After these past few weeks, everything that’s been happening between us, that’s all I am? Like a little sister?” My emotions had gotten the best of me as tears cascaded while she raised her voice at me. “Do you know how proud I was to tell people you were my date M? No one wanted me to go with you because they said it would hurt my image and my fans. I respect my fans, I didn’t won’t to hurt them.” I managed to get those words out between tears. “So you hurt me instead?” She tired to turn and walk off into her room, but I objected. I grabbed her and turned her to face me not letting go. “Of course I wasn’t trying to hurt you girl. I messed up, I know it, and if I could take back everything that happened tonight, I would.”

From my brown eyes to her brown eyes, our eyes connected as we cried in each other arms. “I looked at you the whole time at the banquet M. You were so beautiful. I should have said something, but I didn’t, and I’m sorry. Tonight was going to be the beginning of something new between us, and I messed it up. Do you know how much I care about you?” She didn’t say anything. “M? Tell me you don’t feel the same way.”

M said nothing. I softly touched her face. “Do you like me M?” More tears came rolling down her cheeks. I knew how she felt, but I wanted to hear it from her own mouth. “No, I love you Michael! I always have.” She cried out as her brows wrinkled to look for my response. My lips pounced on hers as what she said registered in my head. I let my tongue slip into her mouth to explore just as I have always wanted it too. I had never kissed a girl before, but I had seen a lot in the 24 years of my life to know what I was doing. I could smell her sweet aroma as I kissed her lips. “I love you too.” I said whispering with my lips still on top of hers. We pulled back and looked at each other as we bashfully laughed.

I wiped M’s tears off her face as she returned the favor. I leaned back down and kissed her lips again. ‘God, I’ve always wanted to do that!’ M pulled back and turned to walk over to the couch as I followed like a puppy dog. We sat down and I turned to look at her. “Where do we go from here?” I asked, just knowing that tomorrow morning we would wake up as boyfriend and girlfriend. She shrugged quietly. “Well, right now Michael, honestly, I think we should just continue being friends.” M looked at me but then looked to the floor. “Everything that has been going on, maybe I don’t understand. But I would have understood if you came to me tonight and said ‘Change of plans!’ As long as we’ve known each other, don’t you think coming to me and talking to me would have been the solution? Everything that’s been happening, if we were to be together right now, things probably just wouldn’t be right. I don’t know if I can take this….at least not right now. Maybe celebrity is what you need, but not me. First it was the night with Brooke coming over and her kissing you, and now this…..” I spoke up. “No, I just had plans for you and me that night, but Brooke invited herself over and I just couldn’t come to tell her no.”

M shook her head. “But still, those were my feelings that got hurt. I don’t won’t to keep getting my feelings hurt and I’m not saying you have to choose one over the other, but I will tell you how it is. If you can’t do both your career and me, then I’m not for you. Friends should just remain as our title.” I sat there not believing those words coming out of her mouth would even exist. ‘Stay friends?’ She searched for my eyes. I stood and headed for the door. “Michael.” I turned back to look at her as she tired to stop me. I looked down at myself. My tie was hanging by its clip and my shirt half tucked in. I turned and walked out of the door. ‘I thought this is what she wanted.’ Was all I could think walking back to the limo to a bunch of nosy bodyguards. “You two work everything out Michael?” My glasses were back on now, and I stared straight past them as they thought I was looking at them “Yea.” I said replaying everything over and over in my head.

When I arrived back to our Encino property, I walked in the house and shut the door. “MOTHERRRRR!!!!” I cried out in a yell before falling to the floor to silently cry.

Chapter 8

Everyone in the house ran to the front door as I lay holding myself crying. “Michael. What happened?” My mother asked now standing in front of me with the look of condolences on her face as she watched me cry. Joseph, Janet and Latoya stood off to the side in their night clothes, while Randy had already left for the night. I opened my mouth to speak, but I soon felt there was a halt as words wouldn’t come out because of the tears. My mother stood there not belieiving her eyes. “Girls, help your brother up to his room.” Toya and Janet came to me as I felt weak trying to stand on my own. The both of them, one on each side had me by an arm as I could see the silhouettes of my shadow and their womanly figures beside me guiding me down the dim hallway, and into the entrance of my room. I loved them so much.

I sat down on my bed as the girls followed. One took off my jacket as the other took off my shoes. I looked up to see Joseph standing in my door way staring. If I didn’t know any better, I would say he looked as if he wanted to say something. But he decided against it. It was strange because Joseph never liked any of the brothers’ female friends, or girlfriends, but he took to M. Which I found odd, but I never questioned why, I was just glad that he did. “We can talk about it in the morning if you’d like Michael.” Mother was now standing beside Joseph looking at the three of us.

“There’s nothing to talk about mother.” Mother nodded and respected my wishes. She and Joseph returned to their room while the girls and I lay on my bed. “Tell us what happened Michael.” Janet said sitting with her legs Indian style and a pillow thrown over her lap, while Latoya lay on her stomach with her elbows propping her up. They looked like they were ready for some girl talk. “She doesn’t want to be with me, plain and simple!” I said sniffing while my tears finally subsided. “Well what did she say?” Latoya wanted me to get straight to the point. I sighed heavily. “I kissed her, and then asked her where should we go from there, and she said we should just remain friends because I really hurt her tonight.” The girls looked from me to each other, and in unison they both said "Y'all kissed?" Toya, wanting more details, asked "How was it? Like with tongue? Or just a boring little kiss?" Just then, the phone rang. I knew it was her. I held my breath as my sisters and I looked forthwith at each other. I answered the phone, but then hung up. I left the phone off its hook, for a reason of not wanting to hear it anymore.

“Why did you do that? That could have been Marri! You need to talk to her.” Latoya was now standing with questionable look on her face. “We’re finished talking, I don’t feel like talking anymore.” I read the different emotions on their faces. “Well we like her! And we’re not going to let you mess this up for us Michael!” Latoya said, determined to get me to work things out with Marri. ‘What the hell? Mess this up for them?’ They clearly cared about M just as much as I cared about her. “Who side are y’all on?” I whined. “Obviously not yours!” Janet intervened. I then took my focus off my sisters. ‘Stay friends. How could she?’ I wanted to be with her as much as she wanted to be with me. I was wrong, and even though I tried to make things right, I didn’t prevail. All I could do was sit and wait for the outcome between us. “Well, are you two still going to be friends?” I shrugged my shoulders because I was still undecided.

Fast forward three months later……

I jumped out of my sleep as I heard the telephone ringing. I knocked a few things over on the nightstand and I searched for the phone. “Hello.” I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes trying to regain my focus to see what time it was. It was now 2:30 and I had only been sleep for an hour. “Were you sleeping?” I sighed after hearing the voice on the other end. “This better be an emergency M!” I could hear her giggling through the phone. “No, and I know it’s late, but I had just finished listening to you new album, and its great!” M sounded enthused as she talked. “Girl….. is that all?” She was rumbling around for something. “Yea, but I didn’t mean to wake you, go back to sleep.” She said as I laid there. “Ok.” I said, and then put the phone back on the hook. I laid there thinking about M.

I still hadn’t seen her since the night of the banquet, but we had been communicating every now and then, but not as often as we use to. I tried to see how things would go not talking to her....... but that girl was like a magnet. I had my music, but the other half of me and my life felt like a void without her and my music. I even anticipated the moment I would be able to see her again. I laughed to myself thinking about her listening to the album. ‘Thriller’ had about another three weeks before it was released to the public, but I had a special copy of the album delivered to her house for her approval.

I rolled over and picked up the phone to call her back. “Hello.” I heard her crunching on what sounded like chips. “What are you doing up this late?” I asked turning over on my back to put my free hand behind my head. “Oh, I was listening to your album while working on this project for school. I didn’t mean to wake you, you’re usually still up, so I thought I’d call.” I wanted to tell her I missed her as it was on the tip of my tongue. "How have school been going? This your last semester right?" "Yea, and it's going good I guess, I'm going to have to find a real job soon instead of being a full time student and living off loans." We both laughed. "Remember what I told you, you can always come work for me! You can be like an assistant or something." I knew she thought against it, but I brought it back up, only half joking. "Ha! You would never be on time for anything if I were you're assistant. You'd probably fire me within the hour you hired me!" I chuckled.

“So what’s your favorite song on the album?” She giggled and then thought about it for a moment. “Well, I like all of them so it’s hard to choose just one.” She thought about it again. “Well...Human Nature.” I began smiling thinking about the day I was in the studio working on ‘Human Nature’ and she walked in. “Why are you smiling Michael?” astounded that she could tell, I tried to play it off. “I wasn’t smiling.” This time I covered my mouth with my hand. “So what about ‘Human Nature’ is it that you like?” I wanted to know.

“Well, it just take’s me to another place when I listen to it. I mean basically everything about the song, the instruments, they rhythm, your voi…” She paused. ‘My voice’ she wanted to say it, I could tell. Awkward silence fell over us as we sat on the phone listening to each other breathe. “Well, I have to be up and ready in another two hours, so um. Goodnight.” Abruptly coming out her trance of thought, “Oh, ok. Sorry to wake you. Goodnight!”

************************************************** ************************************************** ****************

I sighed “I need water and some aspirin please.” I sat in a small section on the set of ‘Beat It’ with the most hideous headache. It was only 6:30 AM, and the day had still yet to come. I had interviews, cast directing, and then a few hours of rehearsal before the night were over with. “Michael!” My makeup artist came flying over to sit in my lap. “What’s the matter sweetie?” Janice was about six years older than I, but that didn’t stop her from trying to get her groove on. “Hey Janice, I just have a headache.” She wriggled in my lap as if she thought I would like it. “But the day hasn’t even started yet. You might as well just let me take care of you until everyone is ready.” She pouted her lips at me. I laughed to myself as everyone walked around and looked at Janice knowing she was trying to make her move, once again. “Here’s your aspirin and water Mike. You’re really going to need them now.” One of the crewman said eyeing Janice with a smirk.

“Excuse me Janice.” I said trying to push her off my lap. “Wait…well; if you need me, you know where I’ll be Michael!” I nodded to reassure her that I did know where to find her as I walked towards my dressing room. “Ole’ Janice is at it again ah Mike!” I turned around to find the choreographer Michael Peters with the on set director Bob Giraldi laughing. They had already peeped out how Janice was. I laughed along. “You know it, she never misses a beat.” I said in my loving soft voice. Finally, I was in my dressing room, thanking God for privacy as I locked the door. I sat down on the couch while throwing the two aspirin in my mouth and drinking water behind it. I laid my head back as I began to think about M. “Damn her!” I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for cursing aloud, because I normally only did it in my head. I was still mad at M, but I was glad that we were talking again. I intentionally planned on her and me talking about us again. I wasn’t going to drop it, no matter what stood in the way.

I started to indulge into some chocolate that sat on a tray across from me. "Ewwww." I spat it back out. A knock came from the other side of the door. “Mike, you ready?” Wanting to say ‘No’ I grabbed my sunglasses off the table as the sun was starting to rise. I looked myself over in the mirror as I had on my red jacket and black pants on. “Yea!” I yelled back.

By 11 pm, we hadn’t even gotten to the rehearsal’s, but fans had started intruding around and on the set. “Michael…Michael!” A fan ran towards me. From a distance, I could see M along with a few other fans coming my way. My heart started to race as it had been my first time in months seeing her. She looked good as always. Her long thick curly hair flying as she walked. I felt myself smiling. “Can I have your autograph Michael? Oh, and I’m single!” One girl said running up to me stopping me in my tracks. “Sure you can have my autograph.” Ignoring her other request for me to answer. I looked on as M stopped and stood of to the side talking to someone else as another fan bumped into her trying to get to me. “Move it bit*h!” she said leaving M with a stunned look on her face. A guy, who I didn’t recognize put his hand on her back, and I read his lips while I still signed autographs. ‘Are you ok?’ He asked. She nodded. “Alright everyone, no one on the set.” Security came walking out literally making everyone leave. “Wait Bill!" I said to my head security. "Her.” I said pointing to M. “Tell her to come here.” He nodded. “Alright Michael.”

Bill walked towards me, leaving M and the same guy from earlier beside her. She smiled at me bashfully, and I smiled back. I looked back and forth from the guy to her. He looked just as much as a fan as everyone else did. For some reason I blushed knowing my feelings for her were showing. “Girl, what are you doing here?” She gave me a quick hug and turned to her friend, pausing first. “Um well….Tony heard that you would be preparing for the video here, and he really wanted to …..” Her voice started to fade out because I could care less what this guy Tony wanted.

“Well great! I don't mean to be rude, but I have to be getting back to work now, it was nice seeing you two!” I shook Tony hand “Nice to meet you!” I gave M a quick hug just as she had given me earlier. “Bye!” “Oh, ok, bye Michael!” Before turning to leave, M gave a gesture that she would call me later as her and Tony walked off. Even with my shades on, I stared in annoyance. Janice soon came over once she saw me standing alone watching M walk away from a distance. “Ain’t that your girl? With another man?” I rolled my eyes not answering. Janice then grabbed me by my arm to walk with me. “Poor baby.” She said under her breath.

Human Nature Empty
PostSubject: Re: Human Nature   Human Nature EmptyMay 8th 2010, 11:09 am

Chapter 9

“I cannot believe I just met Michael Jackson!” Tony sat in the driver seat making our way back onto the LA freeway from downtown. Smiling, I looked over at him. ‘Stupid ass!’ I thought to myself while dropping the act. ‘What was Michael going to think?’ I kept thinking about the look on his face. “Why didn’t you tell me you knew Michael Jackson?” I shrugged. “Well, there’s nothing to tell. Our friendship is…..well, it’s…..we’re…..” I couldn’t find the words I wanted to say. ‘We’re more than just friends. We want to be together. But we can’t; at least not right now. I will only be with Michael IF and WHEN he can handle both his career and being in a relationship with me.’ I kept reiterating this in my head; even since the last time we saw each other. “What are you thinking about? You just stopped in the middle of you sentence.” Tony saw that I had been lost in my own thoughts. “Huh? Oh; nothing.” I opted to lie as it was none of his business to what I was thinking.

The rest of the ride to my apartment was silent. All of my thoughts focused on Michael as I vigorously tried to make it unnoticeable after the umpteenth time Tony continued to ask what I was thinking of. I frankly felt utterly moved by the look on Michael’s face as I saw him. He had never seen me with a guy he’s never known, so needless to say, it turned me on with the fire and the look of jealous rage on his face. Even through his glasses I could read his face; I’ve known him long enough to know his expressions. I could only imagine how he would be in bed releasing his anger. ‘Gosh, what would he say if he knew I was thinking like this about him?’ I could feel the car veering to the left, and then an abrupt stop. I was home. I looked at Tony who was now leaning in for a hug. “Get real Tony!” I retorted after jumping from the car and slamming the door. I was on a mission! “Bye.” I sarcastically yelled and waved as Tony sported a damaged egocentric look on his face.

I soon jumped in my car and headed back downtown to see Michael by myself. At least by the time I get there, the crew should be wrapping things up. I looked at myself in the rearview mirror and realized my sudden glow had returned. I smiled because of the eagerness I had to get to him. Good thing it was night time in L.A; trying to get to downtown would have taken longer that I expected.

I pulled up as I saw more fans had filled the vicinity waiting to see Michael. “Sh*t!” I looked at my watch while getting out of the parked car. It was 12:33 AM. “How am I ever going to get through there?” The area was now secured off as it hadn’t been earlier. I walked around back to see if there was an access door to get to the inside of the set. I stepped in a few puddles on the short trip, but was relieved when I found an entrance door. “Can I help you ma’am? No one is supposed to be back here.” Someone from a distance saw me walking towards the private door. He was a tall muscular kind of guy, looked like he didn’t take sh*t off no one. “Um yes, well. I’m here to see Michael. I couldn’t get in through the front, so I came back here.” His hard cold stare suddenly turned to a satisfying look. “Ok! Right this way.” He said walking to the door and opening it for me to enter. ‘Damn, it was that easy? He must be new. Or don’t care too much for his job!’

Walking around the enormous set, I was like a small thing to a giant! With my eyes seeking for Michael, finally I caught a familiar eye eying me.

“Hey Janice!” Her facial expression grew from tiresome to disgust. “Oh, you back? Where’s your boyfriend?” Janice said flipping her med-length hair off her neck like an exasperated teen. “Where’s Michael?” I asked not caring how she felt at the sight of my presence. She huffed while giving a deep long roll at the eyes. “His dressing room!” I quickly turned on my heels and headed for Michael. “Thanks.” I yelled over my shoulders. As I appeared in front of the door, I argued with my conscience to knock or just walk in. I did both; Knock knock.“Michael?” He didn’t consider looking from the files of paper lying in front of him. His red jacket was removed and now laid on the couch. “I’ll be out in a minute Janice!” I snickered. “It’s me, Marri!” Upon hearing my voice his head jerked towards the door as he stood. “M. What are you doing here? Who let you back on the set?” I walked closer and embraced him in a long soothing hug. He smelled good. Feminine and a light scent of masculine mixed together. “Some security you have! I could have been an obsessed fan!” He laughed.

My arms still wrapped around his neck, I wanted to kiss him as his lips were inches from mine. ‘What the hell.’ I kissed his neck instead. He giggled like school boy. “What was that for?” His voice was in a mere low seductive tone as his breath brushed my ear. I pulled back realizing the door was still opened. I walked over to shut it as he distinctively watched me. He suddenly realized I was by myself. “Where’s your friend Terry?” I took a seat on the couch and crossed my legs, wishing the topic hadn’t come about. “It’s Tony, and he’s wherever.” Michael nodded. “So who is he? And why were you two together?” I couldn’t help but to take my eye off him and looked around the small area of the dressing room. Frustration was building in his face. “He’s a friend I met in school, that’s all. He heard you were down here and wanted to come; I didn’t want to say no, plus I wanted to see you.” Having to explain myself made me feel as if I was his girl… commitment or not.

‘His girl?’ Would that ever come to be? “Oh. So um, has he tired…?” He looked away trying to departure his concern of jealousy, but it bugged him. “…Tired to hit on you?” “Hell naw...I mean, no. Of course not Michael." I grabbed Michael’s hand and laced it with mine as he gave me a boyish grin. “Do you know what song I thought of when I saw the two of you together?” My brows went up as I tried to think of it. I shook my head. He bit his lip before speaking. “The Girl is Mine. The lyrics just kept going in my head, I couldn’t stop it.” We both laughed as I felt butterflies in my stomach. His laughter was a good thing to hear. “Michael, that is so corny, but cute in a way!” He rolled his eyes, as we sat closer to each other on the couch. “Whatever girl, you like it!” I did, I didn’t want to give in and admit it though.

After our laughter seemed to simmer, another round of laughter filled the air by Michael. I didn’t know what was funny since I never knew what went on in his head unless he told me. I eyed him as he held his stomach laughing. 'What is so funny? Do I have a booger in my nose; does my breath smell?’ Of course Michael found things like this hilarious. He finally spoke between his laughs. “You remember when we were mad at each other; Latoya and Janet had to make us talk? I mean at first I thought I would die if I didn’t hear from you again, but when I was on the phone with you, I just didn’t want to talk to you. I was that mad.” I gave a faint laugh, not really wanting to reminisce on what happened then. Michael continued. “I called you that one day and while the phone was ringing, I was ‘God I hope she answers.’ And then when you did, all I could say was....” And in his angriest voice, he mimicked himself “I HOPE YOU’RE DOING WELL! Then you were like… I’M FINE AND SAME TO YOU!” He pulled me on top of him as he fell back on the couch cracking up.

I tried to hold my laugher in because the next part really pissed me off. However, failing to do so, I let laughter rumble within me as I laughed hysterically against Michael’s chest. “Yea, and then you hung up in my face! Boy, I nearly jumped in my car to come over your house and kick you ass Michael!” The rhythm of our laughter rocked our bodies within each others. He looked down at me still lying on his chest. I was glad his sisters decided to pry into our business. Good job girls! “I’ve missed you so much M. Everyday I had wished you would come by the house, or even drive by it for that matter. Whenever I would come home, whoever was there, I always asked if you stopped by. At least it made me feel like there was something, something like hope.”

Suddenly the sound of Beat It’s music blasted on the set, loud enough for Michael and me to here from his dressing room. I stood up, feeling the urge to dance. I grabbed Michael’s jacket from under him and put it on. “I bet I can dance better than you Mr. Jackson!” Feeling a challenge coming on, Michael jumped from the couch and stood in front of me. “What you got girl?” Listening to the sound of the beat made me move. Snapping my fingers and moving my feet, Michael and I were going at it. Mocking his famous spin and kick, I gave it a try in the cutest way possible! He gave a surprised look and nearly fell over laughing, but with Michael being as quick as he was, he began dancing around me in circles to the breaks of his own music. “Can’t keep up I see!” Still dancing, I looked at him nonchalantly, not giving him the satisfaction he wanted. I pouted my lips as I began lip syncing the words.

“No One Wants To Be Defeated
Showin' How Funky Strong Is Your Fight
It Doesn't Matter Who's Wrong Or Right
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It”

In advance to knowing the dance moves, Michael busts them out, walking with pep in his step and snapping his figures along with me. After about three minutes, he put his hands on my shoulder and held up one finger as if he was trying to say watch and learn! Feeling like I was the one being defeated, I leaned up and gave him a quick kiss on his lips. He stopped dancing and looked at me nervously not knowing what to do next.

“Hey Mike!” yelled a booming voice from the other side of the door. We both jumped in unison. “Come in!” A stage manager walked in but slowed his stride into the room as he saw me. “We have a little issue out here, but just whenever you get the time come and talk to me will ya?”

“No, your fine. I was just about to walk back to the set.” The guy nodded in approval and walked back out the door. Michael turned to me and gave me a wanly smile. Not knowing whether to leave me in the dressing room, or to escort me out he began to speak but I interrupted. “I’ll just….” Struggling with my tongue to get the words out, “…I’ll leave. Just call me when you make it home.” I could tell those words were of no satisfaction to his ears, but he nodded anyways. “We shouldn’t be here too much longer, but I’ll call you.” I slowly dragged myself to the door and was spun around to face him. Or his lips I should say!

His lips were against mine and my lips were against his. He slowly inched his tongue in my mouth which caressed mine. My God, even his tongue had rhythm. I could feel my knees getting weak by the second. Michael’s breath was warm and he almost devoured my lips. Any much longer, I would have melted in his arms. He withdrew his lips, and rested his forehead on mine. His eyes were closed. Ha! Talk about a goodnight kiss! Janice would have died from the sight of this I thought while smiling to myself. “I just had to do that. Please forgive me.” He reached for the door but paused without looking at me, and then walked out. Michael can be so weird at times, but I loved it! I walked out of the door, only seconds later to find him talking to the intruder from earlier.

Once I made it home, it was nearly two, which meant Michael should be home soon. I did my nightly routine of cleaning, bathing and getting into bed to wait for Michael. I dismissed the thought I doing homework for my college course since I wouldn’t be going to my classes in the morning. When I finally got in bed, I laid back on my pillow as I rested my eyes to wait for Michael’s call. Tonight was a good night!

Chapter 10

I was abruptly awakened out of my sleep to someone banging at my door. I looked at the clock. It was 7:15. I cursed myself for over sleeping because of the morning I had ahead of me. I yarned and jumped once again after hearing the preposterous knock. “I’m coming!” For a minute I didn’t recognize my own voice as it came out raspy. I soon stomped through apartment towards the front door and swung it up. “It would be nice if you called first Tony!” Tony was six foot tall and medium framed; almost like a basketball player. He was dressed in grey solid business attire by Stafford. His brows wrinkled. “You were supposed to have been up Marri! Now we’re going to be late.” I threw my hands up for him to stop talking since I didn’t want to hear any more. “I know I know, let me go put my clothes on. Just stay outside….go sit in your car or whatever.” I slammed the door in his face and headed for my room. I looked at the phone and realized that I still hadn’t heard from Michael. I sighed. I wasn’t about to call and wake him. He had had a busy day yesterday, and before considering the fact to call him, I wanted to take care of a few things first. I needed to make a few corrections with my life that annexed more than I could handle since the past few months.

I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and then moved to my hair. Style after style, I finally settled for pinning the top half of my hair up and letting the rest fall down my back. Keeping an eye out for the time, I threw on my navy business attire pant suit and gathered my files off the table and was then ready to go. I emerged from my apartment almost thirty minutes later. “Took long enough, we have to meet with the divorce lawyers in the next hour, and you know how thick traffic is this time of morning.” Tony was standing on the outside of his car with a cigarette in his hand. Disgusting! “We have an hour to get there Tony, besides, I think I’m just going to take my car.” I felt the loop warm sensation of the November air knocking at my frame as I stood still waiting for his response. “But we’re going to the same place, why take different cars? I don’t mind giving you a ride.” I was now headed over to my car with him following behind me. “We’re getting a divorce! Why show up together talking and laughing? That would give them a reason to put us on another waiting period. Besides, I’m taking the initiative of doing this on my own.”

I knew he meant well. But still not comprehending, he wanted to force the issue. “Do you think my fiancée will see us? You don’t have to worry about that, she knows we’re riding together. Please, I don’t mind.” Listening to him going on and on, I reconsidered my notions. “Alright, I guess it would save me the drive.” He have me small smile, as I walked back towards his car. “I just need to think about some things, so I won’t be too talkative this morning, alright?” He gave me a nod as we both buckled our seatbelts. My thoughts drifted off as usually. I never wanted to tell Michael about my marriage to begin with, because the whole thing was a mistake on both behalves. Tony and I had gotten married two years before I met Michael. I was sixteen, and Tony was eighteen. With the power our love gained, we wouldn’t let anyone derange our relationship. His parents on the other hand felt that there son was just too good for me; and that I was steering him in the wrong direction from his education and future success.

‘All she is going to do is hold you back son! Before you know it, she’s going to be telling you she’s pregnant. Then what are you going to do? You can’t try to go to school dragging a wife and kid behind you!’

‘We love each other! What don’t you understand?’ Tony and I stood outside of his parent’s house one night in a heated debate. ‘I would never do such a thing to Tony!’ I had to speak up!

‘You be quiet missy!’ His mother retorted shoving me in my shoulder. ‘Don’t touch her!’ Back then I always loved when Tony came to my defense. ‘Let’s go Marri, I see we’re not wanted here!’

That night, we packed our things and jumped in his 74’ Buick Apollo; Las Vegas was our next stop. With the present consent of my mother, we wed in September and had been married ever since. We had been together for two years, but married for nine months living with my mother, and things took a turn for the worst. I was still in high school while Tony had started college. And like the old saying goes, the rest was history! We discussed a legal separation but had no money at the time to conjure such a thing; which left us with the discussion of him moving out and into the campus dormitories. Hence to say, we really hadn’t spoken with each since, until seven months ago when he called asking for divorce because he wanted to propose to a girl he just met. Now when I think of things, I’m glad they turned out the way that they did. If we would have stayed together, I could see us now living maybe with a kid or two regretting everything. In the past three days, since the waiting period six months ago, we had been going back and forth to the offices of the divorce lawyers to get things finalized with today being the last day.

Michael and I could progress on our….our….thing we have going! “Would you like to go somewhere and eat after we leave the office? I’ve enjoyed the past few days catching up. Now since we’re about to be divorced we can….you know be friends and call each other maybe every other occasion.” I shrugged not liking the deception of the idea. “I don’t know, maybe.” I turned the car radio up a few notches and turned to look out the window. ‘I wonder if Michael’s awake by now.’ The sun was shining in the car and I sat anxiously feeling free; free from life, free from myself; that was a wonderful feeling. Ten minutes after getting onto the freeway Tony turned the radio up even louder as I suppose it was his favorite song playing. “Keep your eyes on the road!” I yelled at him for being careless and trying to dance while driving. “I’m just so excited Marri! Soon I’m going to be getting remarried and then possibly start a family. This is so great I jus……”

Suddenly I heard myself scream, for what reason I didn’t know as I was thrown into the dash board. Glass shattered throughout the car as the radio died out, leaving the sound of crashing and movement happening so fast, but yet stood still as I watched everything happen right before my eyes. Tony expression turned to horror as his body jerked and hit the side of his door. His hands being free from the wheel caused the car to loose control before flipping several times and landing on it roof top in the middle of the freeway with us in it for hardship. God please help us!

I woke up to the sound of a loud TV. ‘Please turn it down!’ I said in my head as my eyes repeatedly rolled trying to open themselves. I didn’t feel like I was myself. My head pounded, I felt like I was on drugs, my whole body ached for attention as I felt like it had went into hibernation. After struggling, my eyes finally opened, but only to be disappointed for my vision was blurry. I lay on my side and could barely see the outline of the window in front of me. ‘Where am I?’ I tired to move my arms and legs but was unsuccessful with me wincing in pain. I could hear machines behind my head and voices on a speaker. ‘Noooo. I’m in a hospital?’ With the TV still being loud and I not being able to do anything about it became irritating. Fifteen minutes of me laying there, everything in my body regain its strength…. almost. I could see the sun peaking in through the window from behind the curtain.

I wriggled my finger and toes, then my arm and legs, still wincing in pain. I sat up slowly on my side feeling like I was bout to fall back over. The person I shared the room with wasn’t any help as she laughed loudly at the TV. ‘Lady, please be quiet!’ I finally stood and felt a draft behind me. I touched the back of my hospital gown and realized where the draft had been coming from. Trying to move quickly and cover myself, the lady’s laugher grew. ‘Please don’t be looking at me.’ I began turning around to close the curtain between us for privacy when I saw Michael lying on the next bed propped up by his elbow grinning at me. Should have known. “Michael, why do you have to be so loud?” I moved slowly towards him as he jumped up off the hospital bed and proceeded towards me. I was glad he was there. “Nice rump!” Michael said helping me to sit back down on the bed. I laughed which caused me to cough. My throat was dry. “Here, sit down M.” We sat down beside each other on the bed. “Do you need anything, you want for me to go get a nurse?” I shook my head which made it hurt even worse.

“You need to lay back down girl, you're not well to be standing.” Feeling like I needed something for the pain, I opted for him to go get the nurse for me as I laid back down on the bed. He was gone no more than a minute and reappeared by my bedside. “What happened Michael? How did I get here?” He bit his lip and then kissed my hand. “A wreck, you were in a wreck M. You and Tony.” ‘Tony? Did he just say Tony?’ Everything flooded back to my memory, us on our way to finalize our divorce, and then the wreck which was a matter of life or death. ‘But where is Tony.’ I dared not asked Michael. “So, do you think….I ah, have a nice rump?” Michael burst into giggles as the nurse walked in catching the last part of my sentence. She included herself in the laughter while sitting a cup of water on the stand beside me. “Ms. Coleman, where glad to see you’re finally awake. You’re in the ICU center honey, how are you feeling today?” Michael moved to the side so that the nurse could get by. “I feel sore, and a bit sluggish, but I’ll be ok. It’s just, when I woke up this morning, I didn’t expect to wake up in a hospital later.” Michael and the nurse eyed each other. “Oh dear…the wreck you had wasn’t this morning, it happened last week. Do you remember any of it?” Just then, my mother and my sister walked through the door along with my niece. “Marri!” I gave wan smile as I could see tears springing to my mother’s eyes. She hugged me as Gabby hugged Michael. “Will she be able to leave today nurse?” My concerned mother was tempted for me to leave already. “Not today, we will have to make sure she is well enough to leave first. But tomorrow morning most definitely she will be.” Everyone nodded. My niece came to hug me. “I was worried about you aunt Marri!” came her soft voice. She had grown so much in the six years of her life. “Don’t worry sweetie. Auntie is fine!” she kissed me on top of my cheek and ran towards Michael. It was a beautiful sight seeing the two of them together.

Michael walked over and grabbed something out of a bag and put on a disguise. ‘Is that an overnight bag?’ He turned to everyone in the room and grabbed MeChelle, (my niece) by her hand. “I’m going to take her down to the café to get some ice cream, we’ll be back!” Before the door was shut, the nurse followed behind and left my family and me to privacy. “Was that an overnight back Michael had?” I asked before taking a sip of my water. Gabby shrieked. “Yes girl!!! He was on his way to a photo shoot when he got the call about you being rushed to the hospital. I wish you could have seen him walking right into the building, no disguise, no bodyguards, no nothing! He walked in like he was running sh*t! Everyone was gawking over him, and ever since he’s been here, the nurses were more concerned about his needs than the patience’s. Mama told the nurses he was family so he could stay here with you. He had someone to bring over some clothes so that he could stay, and he’s been right here with you ever since.” I smiled as I envisaged him doing as what Gabby just described.

“Yea, I found him lying over in the next bed when I had awakened this morning.” My mother and sister giggled. “Sweetie, that’s half of it. Michael has been sleeping in the same bed with you ever since they brought you in here. I don’t know how he did it, or what he said, but some how the doctor’s and nurses has let him sleep beside you every night. He only goes to lay’s in the next bed during the day to watch TV.” My mama’s voice soon turned serious as she continued speaking. “My heart went out to him though. He cried and cried when he saw you. He said something about not calling you the night before. Michael was scared; scared to lose you and everyone saw that.” I felt a lump in my throat as I tried to hold back my tears.

I hadn’t told my mother and my sister about the divorce not being finalized yet, I decide for the latter on that one as we continued to talk.

I raised a hand to touch my face and felt scratches left to right. My chin, my cheeks, my forehead and even one on my neck; I rolled my eyes at the thought of how ugly I might have looked. I couldn’t wait to leave here. The nurse came back in to give me my meds for the evening and the rest of the night became a blur just has it had been when I woke up.

The next morning I sat in the wheel chair as Michael, Gabby and my mother, prepare everything for me to leave. Everyone on the staff at the hospital were gracious as they all signed a card for me. When Michael wasn’t looking, I asked Gabby where was Tony and she pointed down the hall. I wanted to make sure he was fine, but that was out of my hands now. Once outside, everyone gave their hugs, and said their goodbyes. Michael and I of course left together and rode off in his limo. Once we were in the car, he looked as if he wanted to say something. “What is it Michael?” He looked distant, but he wouldn’t speak. Minutes later he finally came to. “What were you two doing together?” I looked at him not sure of what I should say. ‘Oh, we were going to finalize our divorce!’ “School!” damn, now I feel like I’ve become a liar. I could kick my own ass for not getting the courage to tell him the truth. After my preaching to him about the same thing, I should have taken my own advice. “What’s wrong with you’re car? It wouldn’t start?” He wasn’t going to drop this. But I nodded my head going along with what he said.

When we finally arrived to my apartment, Michael helped me out of the limo with the aide of his driver. I could move on my own, but it just took me time to do so. I only had my purse whereas Michael on the other had a suitcase or two. The bags were left at the door by Dave while Michael and I went into my room. “Gosh, I need to take a real bath! I’ve been overdue for one!” Michael took that as a cue to go run some water in the tub. “How hot do you want it? Maybe we should throw in some Epsom salt to help soothe the aches in your body.” I shrugged. “Yea, that’ll be fine.” From the bathroom I could hear Michael beginning to talk again. “I’m sorry I didn’t call you that night, I was tired, I didn’t……I, I didn’t….." He paused. "Girl.... I thought I lost you.” I could hear his soft cries from my bed room. I stood up and walked towards him. “Michael, its ok. Don’t cry, please.” Trying to hold back my own tears, I winched trying to wrap my arms around him. “Its ok, I’m fine. I’m a big girl Michael. “I thought I lost you M.”

He tears soon subsided as he turned the water off. “I’m sorry; you just mean so much to me is all. I wouldn’t want for you to leave me down here by myself.” “I would never leave you Michael, remember that, ok?” He nodded as he moved closer to the door. “I’ll be out here if you need help.” He shut the door behind him as I watched, standing there hopeless. I attempted taking off my clothes on my own when I realized I needed help. “Why does this have to happen?” I just wanted nice hot bath after lying in a hospital bed for a week. “Michael.” I yelled. Seeming as if he never left by the door, he quickly opened it. “Yea. You need help?” I started to get the idea he knew this would happen. I nodded my head in embarrassment. He noticed. “Girl, it’s not like I haven’t seen your rump already. I’m not going to look ok; if that makes you feel any better!” He reached for my pants and panties first, taking them off slowly. “Just take them off already!” I couldn’t stand to think of my womanhood coming to his face, at least not at a time like this. He quickly pulled them down as he helped me get them from around my feet. With a small smile on his face I saw him glance at it before standing back up. “You said you wouldn’t look!” My whole body was now feeling flushed. “I’m sorry, but how could I not look when it’s right in my face?” We laughed.

“Just hurry up.” Michael put his hand under my shirt and raised it carefully not to hurt me. Only cringing in pain when my arms came from the sleep, I finally stood there naked in front of Michael. I made sure not to make any eyes contact as he helped me lower myself in the tub. He stood back up realizing my actions. “You don’t have to be embarrassed M. Look at me.” I wouldn’t. Out the corner of my eyes, Michael began taking off his socks and shoes. “What are you doing?” He giggled and then bit his lip. “I said you don’t have to be embarrassed.” He then took of his tie and unbuttoned his shirt. ‘He isn’t’. He now had my full attention. He stopped when he came to his pants. “Please turn your head.” I did as I was told while sitting in the tub. I heard his pants unbuckle and then unzip as they fell to the floor. My heart was now racing as I could see him fully naked without even looking. He slipped in the hot water behind me and pulled my back against his chest while he laid back on the wall of the tub. Michael's heart was racing just as fast as mine.

Chapter 11

I held my breath as I felt M lying against my chest. Thinking about the vision of her body when I helped her out of her clothes made my mind go wild; I wanted her and I could tell she wanted me too. ‘Stay down boy!’ I implied to manhood after its awakening. I tried to laugh to lighten the mood. “Whoa, this water is pretty hot huh?” ‘Oh gosh, that sounded so stupid.’ M nodded in response. Her hair was pinned up in a bun as I could see the structure of her face. “I really appreciate this Michael, you taking care of me and all.” ‘I’ll take care of you alright!’ I giggled to myself before taking my bottom lip into my mouth “You’re welcome. You know generosity is my middle name!” I laughed nervously as she laughed along. Why am I acting nervous? It’s just me and her, in the tub.…with each other….naked!!!! I tighten my jaw. She felt so good being this close to me. “Is that your balls?” she jumped after feeling something against her juicy rump. ‘No, it’s my dic…’ “Oh, sorry.” I expressed while blushing from embarrassment.

Drenching her loofah-sponge with honey-dew body wash, I dipped it in the water and began washing her shoulders. It looked like she had something on her mind as she bit her own bottom lip. That, or either she was enjoying this. I wanted to explore more of her body as I could only see her back side. “Michael?” “Yea?” she paused for a second and then tried to speak again, only for nothing to come out. Before I could stop myself, something came over me as my free hand reached for her left breast while my other hand continued down her back to wash it. “What are you doing?” she whispered at me, grasping at my touch while I gently caressed her nipple. I even felt a little bold stepping outside of my character to get what I wanted.

I could feel my manhood growing by the second as it began throbbing. “I. I want to…..to make love to you M.” I said softly against her ear making her quiver. She didn’t say anything. Just as curious as my mind was, my hand left her breast and slid down to her wet glisten stomach down to her womanhood. From in the water I could feel her legs slowly departing each other giving my hand access. ‘What am I suppose to do? Ok, just remember what Marlon told you?’ I leaned down to kiss her neck which I found to be her spot. Licking and sucking on her neck while massaging her clit had her moaning like I’ve never heard before. The sound of the water splashing around the tub as she moved to grab what was between my legs initiated that she wanted me too. Her eyes widen as she felt my hard protruding member in her hand. She turned to slightly face me. “You mean to tell me you been hiding this all this time?” she seductively asked suddenly looking like a vixen.

With her still laying between my legs, I wanted to take her right then and there; but would I succeed to her satisfaction? I carefully grabbed her thigh with my arm gaining more access to her soaked area as the remaining of her leg hung over the side of the tub. I wanted this more than anything right now. My middle finger gently slipped in her tight center with my thumb still massaging her clit. Yes, I was multi-tasking! “Do you want this?” Now two fingers were invading her as I moved them in circles teasing her as she moaned louder; her head laid back on my shoulder as she snaked her body in rhythm. “Yes, yes I want this! Don’t stop!” I could even distinguish her juices from the water as I thrust in and out of her quicker than I was at first. I felt like I was someone else as I was surprised at my own actions. “Take me to the bed room Michael!” M was getting a little restless trying to enjoy this in the small tub.

Taking my cue, I quickly jumped up from the tub with M still in my arms. I didn’t even know my own strength as I was astounded that I was now carrying her out of the bath room. Both of our body’s dripping wet, my erection was now visible; I laid her on the bed to get a full view of her caramel body. ‘Amazing’ I swallowed thinking about what was about to take place. We were both virgin’s, but it wasn’t about to stay like that for long. I normally was apprehensive of others looking at my body, but this was different, it was a special moment, and it was M. She laid there with the look of shyness and bashfulness written all over her face. I kneeled down in front of her. “Wait. What are you doing?” My head popped up. “I wanna taste you!” I nodded my head to assure her it would be harmless as she nodded for me to go on.

To be honest, I had never tired this before since I’ve never been involved in anything sexual. I just replayed the image in my head from what I was given by my older brother Marlon.

‘Mike, all you have to do is caress and suck it, only using your tongue though! Remember when we were kids and we use to go get our favorite suckers from the store? And when we took that first lick we couldn’t stop because it was so good? It’s just like that Mike, might even taste like it too!’

I smiled a bit as I told myself to man up and go for it. I began thinking about my favorite sucker as I parted her thighs and licked the water off of both thick pieces of flesh and kissing them along the way until I came to face her beautiful wet throbbing center. I parted her lips and ran my tongue slowly over her clit. Her back arched as her hands went for the back of my head to rest. I sucked and licked up to the point I almost felt like I was making out with her womanhood. “Now Michael. Make love to me now!” She was now panting as her chest heaved up and down. I stood up slowly. “Are you sure you want this? I mean, are you really ready?” ‘Don’t back down now, this is the grand finale!’ My conscience was now speaking to me. “Only if you are, I’d rather the first time to be with you than anyone else Michael.”

I nodded to assure her that I was indeed ‘ready’. She scooted back on the bed and got under the covers as I crawled up to do the same and come face to face with her. I kissed her lips delicately as she wrapped her legs around my waist. Our tongues seemed to be in a wrestling match with each other as the kiss went on for a few seconds longer. I pulled back and looked down to what was waiting for me. I took a deep breath as my manhood slowly positioned itself to knock at her entrance; I was on my knees as her legs parted even more. I slowly etched my hard piece of wood in the tight dripping center as it almost sent me over the edge feeling her soft surface. Her eyes were shut as she embraced herself for the pain as I further went in. “Ohhhh Michael!” Her voice yelled out. I didn’t want to stop, but I didn’t want to hurt her either.

“Do you want me to stop?” “NO!” she conjured with no hesitation. I grinned as I felt myself growing weak after finally getting all of myself inside of her and moving like I did when I was on stage. “M. Oh God girl, you feel so good!” Our bodies were now slithering against each other as I kissed her neck while closing my eyes. M wrapped her arms around my neck as I felt her adjusting to my size and making herself comfortable. She bucked her hips to meet mine as my paced picked up and we intertwined with each other to the rhythm of our own music. “I didn’t know ole’ Michael Jackson had it in him.” She quietly breathed out into my ear and the let out a big gasp as I thrust deeper. “You like that?” I kissed her nipple. “God yes, I love it!”

I really liked this other side to me. I guess being in the moment you just know what to do without actually know what to do. My pace had quickened even more as I let out a “Woooo.” This was getting intense. Her muscles contracted around my di*k as it made me not want to stop. She sucked on my earlobe as every thrust at the hips I gave her, she gave me one back. I could just imagine how this scene looked if someone walked in here.

A strong sensation rippling throughout my body gave me the signal that I was about to erupt. Every inch of my body tingled. M throwing her head back and her body shaking told me that she had came only a second before I did as her hot juices rolled down my shaft and then to my thighs as I had a straight shot of releasing myself inside of her; making me feel weaker more and more. My eyes rolled in the back of my head as I could no longer control my breathing. I laid my head on her chest as I kissed her breast one last time. She wrapped her arms around me as we both panted in unison.

“Michael, that was....it was...” She giggled. "You speechless?" We laughed together this time. “It’s sort of scary, but….I always knew for some reason my first time would be with you. I always knew you were a freak!” She kissed me on top of my head. I blushed. “I am not! But I didn’t think I would satisfy you really.” I could tell she frowned.

“But why?” I looked up at her and shrugged. “I don’t know, I guess cause you've always seemed like the type that would go for rough kind of guys, like Tony. And because I’m like this shy guy who is still into cartoons, I’m sensitive, plus we’ve been….” M shushed me. “Don’t ever think like that Michael. To me, you’re still all man, and who doesn’t still watch cartoons? Who wouldn’t won’t their man to be sensitive; it shows that they have feelings and that they care for other people’s feelings too.” I rolled over to her side so that I could see her face in full view and to wrap her in my arms laying small kisses around her face.

M was right; I was still a man no matter what. “Hey, you’re wearing your necklace.” She touched it and smiled, remembering that I bought it for her on her birthday. “Yea, I always wear my necklace.” “The last time I saw you, you weren’t wearing it, so I thought you got rid of it that night you got mad at me.” She leaned up at kissed me. “I would never be that upset to do that." Her sentence trailed off. "Listen, about what just happened….” That’s how she ended the sentence. ‘Oh God, please don’t start off with we should just remain friends again.’ M continued, “I’ve been thinking, if you want to, maybe we should, you know….” She struggled with words, but I soon interjected, I was hurt; I already knew what she was going to say. “Remain friends?” I asked nonchantly. I could feel the tears about to spring to my eyes as I was about to turn my head. “No. Be girlfriend and boyfriend, if that’s what you want?”

My tears drew back as I realized what she had said. “Boyfriend and girlfriend?” Knowing what we had just done was against my religion, and to know M, she only wanted to make it right by at least titling ourselves with each other. “Yea, I just wouldn’t want for you to regret what just happened, especially if we remained friends.” I sat there not saying anything because I couldn’t believe it. I sat there to let it marinate in my head. “Girl, do you know how long I’ve been waiting to hear you say that?” I wrapped my arms around her tighter as she squealed. “I take that as a yes!”

The last part of her sentence faded out as the telephone on the night stand rang. I answered. “Hello?” It was a woman asking for M; it sounded a lot like business so I handed the phone over to M so she could talk. I looked around on top of the bed as it was now a mess with us laying between the sheets. For some reason M voice seemed to change as whomever was on the phone was talking about a touchy subject. She stuttered over her words and looked at me as if she didn’t want for me to hear their conversation.

Chapter 12

I laid a soft kiss on her shoulder to relax her. She was my girl now, and there was no way I was going to let her go. Being in an actual relationship was going to be a new chapter for me…no, (correction) us! The aroma from our love making still lingered in the air as it had only been minutes ago since we finished. She was beautiful; God she was beautiful. Strains of her hair escaping for the bun were now falling around her facing and down to her arms. She was clutching the phone as if it too wanted to escape. Her tone was serious and her focus was onto whatever the top discussion followed over the phone. She heavily sighed as she listened instead of speaking. “Ok! Bye!” She gave me the phone to return it to the receiver. “You ok M?” She looked at me with dopey eyes as she snuggled against my chest pulling the covers on us. “Yea that was Tony’s fiancée, just checking on me.” It sound like there was more to the conversation in my opinion. ‘Did she just say fiancée?’ Now I felt as if I didn’t have to be so apprehensive of Tony. Whoever his fiancee was, she must have had a lot of trust in Tony for him to even think about being in the presence of someone like Marri. ‘YES, THE GIRL IS MINE!’ I smiled above her head where she couldn’t see me as I was feeling at ease about the situation.

Here I was, suppose to be making sure she was getting her rest, but instead had her engaging into a very productive activity. Oh gosh, what would my mother say?

I held her naked body tight against mine as I finally laid back to rest. I didn’t know how long I was going to stay here, but I needed to get back to work soon. The video for ‘Beat It’ was put on hold at least until I knew M was able of being along and doing things on her own. Also ‘Thriller’ was about to release here in the next few days, hospital visits, charitable events, and a trip to London were all in the upcoming weeks and then more….. “Michael.” M speaking interrupted my thoughts as I could feel them coming back to reality. “Yeah.” Her finger doodled as she outlined my navel and ran her finger along my stomach while she thought about her question. I really had never seen her seize so much as she didn’t before. ‘My Girl.’ It took 4 years for that to come about, but now it was true. ‘My Girl.’
I felt my grip getting tighter as the iteration had begun. Now she was ‘My Girl.’

Her dark brown eyes slowly looked at me with something heavy on her mind. “Michael, if you were to ever find out about something that someone never told you before, how would you feel about it?” A sigh of relief excused her lips. It was obvious she wanted to get something off of her chest, but I didn’t want it to ruin the aftermath of what took place as these kinds of things tended to happen. I could feel my eyes deceiving me as I tired to keep them open but they wanted to close because of the sleep that ensued as I tired to think of something to say. I continued to think about it as nothing conjured at first. “Well, I’m pretty much a forgiving person. Nothing could be as bad as how Joseph has done to our family, but I’ve forgiven him…he’s getting older now so he’s changed in a way I guess.” I nearly felt anger rising inside of me as I continued to think of Joseph. I did hate him in a way, but the Michael that did see some kind of good in him told me to love him.

“So forgive and forget huh? I like that.” Her voice was quiet and shy as I finally looked down and realize I had been talking to her. It was only three in the evening as the sun seeped in through the curtain to make its presence known. “I love you.” I heard myself say in a whisper as I pulled the covers up some more ready to close my aching eyes. In a distance, or what sounded like it was distances away even while lying under each other, M said she loved me too.

********
I stretched as I felt I was alone in the bed. My hand searched for her as I felt the spot she had been laying in was still warm. She was somewhere close I figured since I could hear her wincing. I jumped from the bed to grab my clothes only to find my hand reaching down towards the ground at air, before remembering having to take them off in the bathroom; I grabbed her robe that lay bundled up in a chair and threw it on. Following the sound of her movement, I found myself nearing the bathroom as she was walking out. She jumped at the first sight of my presence and then she smiled. “You look good in pink.” Her voice sounded groggy as her face was flushed with sleep written over it while she eyed her robed as she was now wearing an oversized sleeping shirt. I laughed as I helped her back into the bedroom. M hair was now neatly combed and falling down her back. “Why didn’t you wake me to help you? That’s what I’m here for.” She shrugged, not really knowing what to say. “Well, I went to take my meds. But it's ok Michael, plus I’ll have to do things on my own sooner or later, you’ll be leaving soon because you have a busy schedule. Besides, I’ll be back to my old self in no time; this was just a minor set back.”

I wanted to help her and I was going to do just that, but with her being so stubborn, the thought of hiring a maid to help out would definitely be out of the question. “Girl, you better use the help while it’s here ok? And what are we going to eat? I’m starving.” We both looked over at the clock to see that it was going on 8 PM. Talk about feeling well rested! I hadn’t gotten sleep like that not even when I went to bed at night. I helped M to sit down on the bed with the shirt rising to show more of those tempting thighs. ‘Damn those beautiful thighs.’ “Well, I know one thing for sure; you sure as HELL ain’t about to cook… I’m already in pain; last thing I need is to die from you cooking!” I stood there rolling my eyes at her humor. I can learn how to cook; I just didn’t have the time to do it outside of my music. Someone probably would charge me an arm and a leg to teach me just because of my name.

I want to be the perfect boyfriend and I was willing to learn that too if I could. I want to show her how much I care for her and how much I’m willing to do. Outside of me being who I was, instead of always having someone to do things for me, I wanted to have someone to do things for. I want to be able to wake her up in the morning with breakfast already cooked. “One day, will you teach me how to cook M?” I stood over her as she sat looking up at me. After all the time we spent together, the thought never crossed my mind until now. “Oh course I’ll teach you. I think that’ll be something we both would enjoy.” M’s long eyelashes batted as she carefully stood with my help to finally meet my gaze. She looked like she was searching for something, but found what she was looking for. ‘My lips’

She finally pulled back as my lips felt like how she looked, swollen. “Waffle House.” “Huh?” She kissed my cheek this time as she laughed. “Let’s go to Waffle House and eat.” I thought about it for a moment as I wanted to do something different for a change. I finally agreed and hurried to put on a disguise and some real clothes, followed by helping M into a sweater and a pair of jeans to wear out. We scurried off to her car with me being the designated driver since she had taken her medication already. I had never been to Waffle House, but I could tell that I would be doing a lot of new things I wasn't use to doing. I figured, 'What the hell, it'll be a great experience.'

“You know you really shouldn’t be out. You should be at home recuperating. Pretty soon your medication will kick in.” I informed her as I was now looking around the small diner by the name Waffle House as pictures filled the wall. “I know, but I really have wanted their waffles for some time now. Plus I need some real food in my system.” Our waiter returned to our table with our drinks, placing them in front of us. “Milk for you sir and water for you ma’am! Your food will be right out.” She gave me a wink at the eye before turning to walk way. I gave her a quick sizing up before she left us; loud, big hair, gum smacking, and too much making up wearing kind of woman. Doris is what her name tag read.

“How long Michael, had we been friends before you started liking me?” I smiled since I knew the question was bound to come up sooner or later. I actually thought about initiating it just so we could talk about it one day. Things like this actually intrigued me as I wanted to ask her the same question.

“Well, ah, it was about the third time I saw you...” I started to smile again as remembrances came to mind. “… this was when we met up in California, and you were telling me about you going to school, and your interest of wanting to get married one day and have a family. You didn’t seem star struck by talking to me, you acted as if I was a normal person, you know?” She nodded while taking a sip of her water as I could tell her face expression changed. "I was too young to even think about marriage." She stated looking away and stared into space as if something we both had just said bothered her.

Images of us making love again flashed through my head as I sat hoping that later tonight for a replay of the scenes from earlier. “Well, what about you?” I asked getting back on the subject. I already knew the answer; I just wanted to hear her say it. I bit my lip as I knew it was something she liked. Over the years I picked little things up that drove her crazy; whether it was things she did or didn’t like. Her thick dark sandy brown hair was taken up and hung suspended on top of her head as she had just put it in a ponytail.

“Well, um…of course as you already know, Gabby liked you first. And when we became friends, I tried my best to only look at you as that, but the more we hung out, the more attracted to you I was. My heart just grew fond of you. I mean what could I say, you were Michael Jackson, not the entertainer, but the person.” Her hand gestured and expressed in signs as she spoke. M gave me a heartwarming smile as she laid her hand on top of mine, letting me know that her words were sincerely from her heart. “About two years ago, I remember after getting my braces off ….” she continued as a lump filled her throat. “…. when I had them taken off, I then felt like I was actually pretty enough for you to even consider thinking of me as something more.” Her voice dropped as her shyness stepped out. “You’re not pretty M, you’re beautiful, always have been. When you told me you were getting braces, I was a little upset because I never wanted you to feel like you were ugly. Gap or not, you’ve always been beautiful to me.” She ran her tongue on her perfect aligned teeth as she remembered the metal against them. Over the years, I had even fought with my own appearance as I felt that I was the ugly duckling after on numerous accounts of girls telling me how good I looked. Of course it was my fame that made them say it, thinking they had a chance at my money.

Doris came back to the table with our food which both consisted of an omelet and waffles. A group of girls who had been standing outside finally decided to come in at that moment as Doris left us to enjoy our meal; I was focusing on my food as M had noticed them entering. The four of them walked past our table, slowing down while eyeing us. Beginning to eat like I had never eaten before, I devoured the small portion of food that was on my fork into my mouth. “Michael?” My head popped up from my plate as I thought it was M talking to me. “Michael Jackson! It is him girl!” The girls jumped in excitement as they flew over towards me. “Can we have your autograph?” They threw their pen and paper at me while another one stood back and waited her turn as she spoke aloud to her girls, “I just knew it was him! I read about him wearing disguises going out in public, and for some reason when I looked in through the window, I just knew it was him, I know that baby face from anywhere!” I had to admit, this wasn’t one of my best disguise. I laughed at the thought of them realizing who I was. I put my fork down to give them what they wanted.

M continued eating as she smiled at the girls who barged their way towards the table. “Thank you Michael!” Every head in the diner was now turning as everyone heard the commotion from the girls giggling together leaving back out of Waffle House. Doris returned to the table with two to-go boxes and a piece of paper that said ‘On the house!’ and right below that, ‘Autograph here.’ I knew what she was insinuating before we no longer were going to be able to eat in peace. I packed up M’s and my food and signed the paper. “Thanks Doris!” I said handing it back to her. She smiled still smacking her gum. “No, thank you sweetie, you two have a good night now!” She turned and put her pen behind her ear as more people started to get the impression of who was behind the hat and fake mustache. I grabbed M and lead her out of the door so that we could make our way back to her apartment.

AND THEN THERE WAS THRILLER…. Everything had been going good for me. My Thriller album had just released last week and it was already selling pretty fast; things between M and I were way beyond good at this point and in the time we had spent together. She finally was able to return to school a few days ago so she could finish out her last quarter and graduate.

I walked around the corridors of the hospital as cameras flashed and reporters followed all around me. I was taken to the fifth floor to the Children’s Ward where the kids patiently waited in their room with their families. I smiled at one of the nurses. “Hi.” She stood pinned against the wall with a grin on her face. I loved visiting the underprivileged kids who could not come out into the public to get an autograph, or take pictures with me because of failing health at such a young age. I made it one of my obligations to come visit them instead as it was an honor for me. It took nearly two hours to visit every single room there was on that floor that evening.

I just didn’t stop at the Children’s Ward either; I normally made a round trip to every floor of the hospital so that I could see everyone. The last time I was here was when M had her stay on the 8th floor from the wreck she was in. “Lets go to the ICU center.” I whispered to one of my bodyguards fixing my shades and signaling for him to leave the cameras and reporters behind. I didn’t mind them following, but today, the Children’s Ward was the only floor I would let them follow me so far. “Alright, this is as far as everyone else goes!” Everyone stopped in their tracks as I could read the disappointment on their faces. “Maybe next time folks!” Another bodyguard yelled out as we stepped into the elevator to head to the 8th floor.

Once the elevator door opened, I headed straight for the receptionist desk. She looked up as her heart nearly jumps out. “Oh, Mr. Jackson. Glad to have you back, what can I do for you?” I looked down the halls, then to my security and back towards the woman sitting behind the desk. “Um, I’m looking for… Tony. Tony eh.” I didn’t know his last name. “He um.. I sorry, I don’t know his last name. But I was just wondering if he was still here.” She looked down at her charts to see if a Tony was on the floor. I watched as her index finger strolled down the long list of patients. I looked towards my security once again. “Guys, you can go wait in the waiting room.” “….Oh, here we go. Tony. Tony Coleman. He’s in room 812.” I gave a nod and a thank you so that I could be on my way. But then I stopped. “Did you say Coleman?” I shook my head. Coleman was a common last name just like Jackson. “Never mind.” I threw up my hand to assure her it was nothing. She smiled and finished the work I stopped her from earlier.

Chapter 13

I slammed the phone down after talking to Janet. ‘Where in the hell is Michael, and why hasn’t he called?’ In just a few more hours it was getting closer to midnight and I hadn’t heard from him since we had made love this morning; which by the way makes me quivers every time I think about it. I loved the way he made me feel. It was no other feeling like it! He was there for me, and that's what I needed. I reluctantly returned back to school even though I didn’t want to for the fact I now felt as if I would miss out on something if I wasn’t around Michael. It was the last quarter, so I didn’t have long to go. Never really missing out on anything, my professors had caught me up with the rest of the class as far as assignments went. Thinking of Michael’s absences once again made me curse. ‘Dammit!’ Now I was getting unsettled and angry. Of course I knew he a was busy person; his Thriller album had just dropped, everyone was calling him for interviews, talks about the next video shoot, TV appearances…. gosh he was a busy person. I knew I said that I wouldn’t be with him unless he could handle both his career and me, but I realized that doing both, the only out come was either good or bad. I just had to wait and see which one would be the latter. I loved him, and I was enthused to know that he love me too. I remembered how I use to silently pray that one day we would be together, and it finally appealed. Don’t complain too much I told myself; he’d even put a hold on everything in his career just to take care of me after I left the hospital, which by the way is going to be another bill I have to take care of. I thought about Tony and the divorce that never got finalized. Damn! I thought by now this would be the least of any problems.

Being around Michael made me not worry, which was a good thing detaining the fact that I always worried. I told myself that I would make a trip downtown soon to go sign the papers and then wait until Tony was able to sign so that we had nothing else to do with each other. It’s not like we ever really had something going, excluding the fact of when we were younger, but that was years ago, this is now! I always wanted to tell Michael about my marriage, but what would be the result of it? Him judging me because of a mistake I made? I shook my head while putting it in my hands. I thought about Tony. “I hope he’s ok.” He was still in the ICU center in critical condition. Lynn, his fiancée told me he had a few broken ribs along with deep cuts and bruises. My injuries were serious, but thank God they weren’t as serious as Tony’s.

I smiled when I thought about Michael helping me into the tub that day after undressing me, then hisself in the process just so that I could feel comfortable being naked. Now that is what I called a man; any man willing to take initiative like that was someone to hold on to.

The loud obnoxious ringing of the telephone brought me out of my satisfied thoughts, only making my anger engulf me once again. “This better be Michael.” I snatched the phone off the receiver. “Hello.” There was a long pause to the point I wanted to hang up. “Hello?” “I need for you to quickly pack your bags M; where going to London for the weekend.” Michael sound very quiet and shy about something for some reason. I couldn’t put my finger on it however; I just wanted to know where he had been. “Where are you Michael? And where have you been? I’ve been worried about you?” It was nine o’clock on a Thursday night during the cool winded fall season. Winter was just around the corner and as followed, Christmas and a New Year. “Well, I um….I’ll be there in 30 minutes to get you. I want us to leave out by ten tonight. Ok?” Before I was given my turn to answer he hung up. I pulled the phone from my ear and looked at it before placing it back on the receiver. Michael never acted like that unless it was something he wanted to talk about.

Exactly 30 minutes later, Michael had arrived in his limo and my bags were finished being back. I checked around my apartment to make sure everything was clean and that nothing was left out of place; I hated coming home to a nasty house. One of my pet-peeve. After turning off all the lights and turning to lock the front door I was greeted by Michael’s driver as he helped escort me to the limo. “Hey Dave, is he in the limo?” He grabbed my bags with a smirk on his face, trying not to make eye contact. “Eh, yeah, he’s in there.” I quickly opened the door of the car and peeked in to see if Michael had one of his shenanigans up his sleeve. He didn’t. He sat on the far side of the limo with his arm propped under his chin looking out of the window; his shades where on as he didn’t budge after the sound of the door opening. “Hey!” He slowly turned and gave a wan smile while holding his arm out for a hug. I leaped in and shut the door behind me before I was engulfed in his arms. I didn’t want to ruin the moment with asking what was wrong, so I sat peacefully underneath him as we road to the airport in silence listening to each other breathe.

I leaned against him, thinking, and not understanding. Everything seemed to have been working out in our favor, and then today, all of a sudden Michael seems like he’s changed. I knew him too well to know that when he was quiet, something heavy was on his mind. ‘Did I do something? This definitely wouldn’t be a good time to tell him about Tony and I.’ Actually I didn’t have any intentions on telling him for the fact I wanted to get it all done before anything could get out. I wasn’t trying to play devious or anything, I just felt that if I could avoid telling him, then there was no reason for him to have to know; but the truth would have been better in the first place.

“I love you M.” I turned away from the window of the private jet we’d been sitting on for almost an hour now. Michael whispered sitting across from me, trying not to make it obvious while sipping on bottled water looking directly at me. ‘Where did that come from?’ He’d been quiet this entire time which made me even more suspicious. “I love you too Michael. Are you ok, I mean ever since you picked me up, you’ve seemed very distant?” He threw his finger up and mouthed something to himself. His staff who met us at the airport sat closer towards the front of the jet giving us a little privacy. “Russell. Where’s that note pad.” His security member jumped from the seat and handed him the pad. “Here you go Mike.” I looked at Michael as he was dressed in his famous military style all black jacket, and a pair of black slack to go along with it. Michael quickly wrote something on the note pad as he continued to mouth something to himself. He was composing; every second he got, if something popped in his head, he wrote it down. He looked up to meet my gaze. “Aren’t you excited to be going to London?” He avoided my question.

“We're going to be staying at a friends vacation home for the duration of the stay, I’m sure you’ll like it.” “What friend?” I grabbed the small blanket that sat in the seat beside me and threw it up over my shoulders. “Jane Fonda. I have a little business to take care of while I’m up there tomorrow, so she's letting us stay at her place.” I looked at the staff who consisted of his manager Frank, six bodyguards, and his personal camera man, which by the way were half awake and half sleep. How were we going to pull this off? Of course they knew Michael and I were close friends and that we hung out together, but they haven’t been let in on the secrecy of our new relationship like our families had been. I motioned my head towards the guys to see what Michael would say. “I’m going to put them up in a hotel. I already had that planned.” Satisfied, I laid my head back on the headrest and closed my eyes. We had just a few more hours before we meet out destination.

I woke up to someone nudging me in the arm and loud commotion. “Wake up pretty lady! We’re here.” Russell who had a grin on his face handed me my coat. “We’re not in California any more, so you going to need this.” I sat up to find Michael and the rest of his staff walking down the steps of the jet to be greeted by who I assumed was Jane Fonda’s personal driver. We were now on London’s time; it was five in the evening and the sun was setting down in the cold winter air. Finally rising, I made my way down the steps with my large over coat to keep me warm fastened tightly against my body. Our things had been put in the trunk of the new limo as Michael patiently waited for us to leave. “Mr. Rupert, this is M, she’s going to be a guest at the house along with me.” Mr. Rupert, who ranged around the age, eh, I’d say somewhere in his sixties, looked at me and gave a smile. “Nice to meet you madam.” He said in his English accent while placing a soft kiss on my hand; then returned to opening the door for Michael and me to get in after I iterated his greeting. Michael’s staff went in the opposite direction from us as they jumped on a bus like taxi cab towards their hotel.

“What do you want to do tonight?” Michael was still quiet, but this limo ride was a little livelier more than the other since he was now making small talk. His shades were now off, but he avoided making eye contact with me for what reason I didn’t know. ‘Leave it alone. You’ll find out sooner or later.’ “Don’t know Michael. A nice dinner would do later, but I’m pretty tired from the flight, so a nap would do just fine for the moment.” He agreed. "Yea, a nap would be nice." Then he turned his attention towards the window. Finally, pulling up to the large beautiful townhouses in Holland Park, my eyes widen as I sat up to see more of the area. “This is beautiful Michael!” This time he looked at me and smiled. Not how he normally smiled though. “It is isn’t it?” He actually seemed shy around me again.

“Do you need any help with your luggage Mr. Jackson?” Mr. Rupert asked while holding the door open for us to get out. “No, I think we have it from hear Mr. Rupert. Thank you so much for your help. I’ll be calling you tonight for my plans tomorrow.” Mr. Rupert gave a bleak nod at Michael’s request. “Farewell then. See you tomorrow.” "Bye!!" Michael and I said in unison. We went to retrieve our bags from the trunk of the limo as Mr. Rupert walked around towards the driver’s side to leave. Hurrying into the town house before Michael was noticed; we found the door already unlocked, leading us through the massive living room of the two story town house. It was even more beautiful on the inside as we carried our bags through the refined area, walking past the kitchen and down the hall and up the stairs to the room we would be residing in. Michael walked into the room and sat on the bed, looking as if he wanted to say something. Why was he being so quiet? I walked towards him and kissed him on the forehead. “If something is on your mind Michael, talk to me.” I began taking off my coat and any other excess clothing that was making me hot. Michael seemed content with still wearing his jacket.

Michael stood up and shoved his hands in the pocket. “I do have something I want to talk about with you.” Good, he was finally about to tell me what was on his mind. How bad could it have been that he was so shy to speak around me? “Ok, what’s up?” Michael walked to the far side of the room and paced as he thought how the conversation would come about; and then he said, “Yesterday, I. I um….I went to visit Tony in the hospital, and he….” Ah hell, this is bad! I stood there with my heart racing as I felt like I could hardly breathe by what he was saying. Tony? God no…..this can’t be happening. The telephone suddenly rang as I felt weak from the knees up. Michael walked towards the phone to answer it. ‘Tell him, you have to tell him now. It’ll be better to just admit it now before he say anything else. It'll be better coming from you!’ “I have something to tell you Michael.” He looked at me with his jaws clenched while raising the phone to his ear. I felt hot at that moment, as I knew this could be nothing but trouble about to happen. ‘This can’t be happening. Tony you basta*d, why did you have to open your mouth? No, don’t blame Tony, this is your fault, you should have told him.’ I took a deep breath as tears started to fall. Michael now had his back towards me as I silently cried to myself. ‘Tell him.’

"M, Jane says..." “Tony and I are married!” I blurted out the moment I saw him hanging the phone up before he could say anything else. Michael’s head abruptly turned towards me to see if what he heard was right? “What? What do you mean married?” I iterated the look he had just given me. He stood rooted in the spot he stood in. “M? Where is this coming from, what do you mean married?" He double took as he finally understood. "MARRIED?” I nodded my head as more tears started to fall. “I’m so….so sorry Michael. I – I didn’t want to tell you because…” “MARRI!” Michael threw his hand up for me to stop what I was saying as he didn’t want to believe it. “Girl, please….just please tell me you’re playing with me…right? You’re just getting me back from the joke from the other day…PLEASE TELL ME THAT YOU ARE MARRI!” I shook my head as his eyes got red from the tears ready to fall. “Isn’t that what Tony told you? That's why you've been acting the way you've been all day isn't it?” His eyes suddenly shot towards mine as he remembered the visit from yesterday he had had with Tony. “No, he didn't tell me…how long have we been friends Marri? And you’re just now telling me this?” I sprung off the bed and walked towards him, but resisted as he walked backwards to move from me; tears still in his eyes. “We got married six years ago when I was sixteen; It didn't last long and we didn’t have the money for a divorce Michael, so we just separated and lived different lives. Please, you have to believe me. We were young and in love, we made a mistake….the day of the wreck we were going to finalize the divorce, Michael please listen to me!” He continuously shook his head in disbelief as he backed up against the wall and put his head in his hands. “Nooo M…this can’t be true. Married? You? Oh God….and you told me you were a virgin! I believed you Marri!!!” He was shouting like I never heard him shout before. Everything all of a sudden went downhill, and it was all my fault. Out of the time we had known each other, this was Michael’s first time calling me Marri as much as he did. “What? I didn’t lie to you about that, he never touched me Michael.” “How do you expect me to believe that, huh Marri; you’ve been lying to me this whole time, and you’ve been married!” Jumping to defense, I said, “I haven’t lied to you about anything, I just didn’t tell you about my marriage to Tony! You were my first!” He narrowed his eyes. “You married him and didn’t let him touch you? Yea right, that’s hard to believe!!!” He no longer had the soft shy voice everyone known him to have. There were no longer peace in the two story town house as it had been when we first walked in. Not even 10 minutes of being here, we already were in a heated argument.

Trying to calm myself, I shut my eyes tight and took a deep breath. “We came close to having sex, once, but it never happened, I just wasn’t ready for that step!” I was surprised at how calm I sounded through my tears. ‘God, if you hear me, let this all be over with please!’ “I feel like your not the person I met. You’re not the same Marri who I thought was loyal and my best friend who told me everything. Our friendship, hell our relationship now….it’s…it’s nothing but a lie now. Michael’s voice started to crack as more tears fell while he continued to speak. “I guess I can’t propose to someone else’s woman then. I really thought we had something M.” He pulled out a ring from his pocket, which is what he had been holding onto this whole time. Michael put it in my hand once he stood in front of me. My mouth fell open as I then realize this is what must have been on his mind all this time. Then what was it that Tony told him? Michael’s whimpering followed him as he walked towards the door to leave the room. “I don’t….” He paused for a long while. “I don’t think we should be friends anymore.” And with that, he slammed the door behind him as both of our cries from either side of the door could be heard. I guess when I prayed for it to be over with, God granted my wish of it actually being over.

Chapter 14

I lay on the bed with my hand squeezing my necklace as if it were leaving my neck. My face was red, my eyes was red, my nose was red, and all I could see was red. How could this have happened? It was my entire fault, and the result of it all was him not wanting to be friends anymore.

“If they say why, why, tell em’ that it’s Human Nature, why why, does he do this way.”

My voice was barely above whispers as I sang the song he once sung in the booth that day. If only I could go back to that day, the day he was my friend, the day things were still good between us. Hearing my heart thumping loud as if it was out of my chest and beside my ear, all I could think about was the argument that had just happened. I had been lying down for an hour now as dark had already approached and covered the window behind me. I sniffed. I sniffed again. And again; in sequence the tears started to leap from my eyes as I began crying. No…this can’t be over. I refuse for us to be over! If my prayer was answered the first time, then surely it would be answered a second time. I squeezed my eyes shut with my hand still attached to the chain I had gotten for my birthday and the ring I was just given moments ago; I said a silent prayer and then opened my eyes again.

I sat up from the bed and looked around the room. Michael hadn’t been back in here since he’d left and I hadn’t heard any movement from him either to know if he was still present in the vacation home from London. I stood and walked to the door and opened it. I looked down the hall to see if I could see or hear him. Nothing. I looked down the opposing end of the hall when I heard sniffing near. “Michael?” He looked up at me from the floor with his eyes dark and larger than ever, looking like a kid did when they were sad; his hand flew to his mouth as he wiped it. I looked at him frozen as our eyes connected until the moment he looked away. “What do you want?” Michael’s voice was still abnormal; his body slouched against the wall without a given care. “It’s…beautiful.” I said walking from the door frame of the room to sit on the floor in front of him. His eyes were swollen from all the crying he’d done.

I held the ring up for him to know what I referred to as beautiful. It was a gold Marquise cut diamond with 30 smaller diamonds engulfing the ring leader in the middle. Michael shrugged his shoulders not really caring anymore for the ring. “Keep it. I won’t have any use for it anymore.” I felt my heart sank at his comment. I didn’t know what to say to him at that moment....good thing the arguing was over with though. I took a deep breath. “Michael. This is the honest to God’s truth. I was virgin until I met you, and I didn’t want to tell you about the marriage because it was a mistake. I was in love with Tony, but that was years ago….I haven’t heard from him since until a few months back when he called about getting the divorce because he now had the money.” Michael still continued to stare into space as he pretended to listen. I thought that if I had gotten the divorce over with before you found out, then I didn’t have to worry about telling you. I’m sorry.” He shook his head. “Just stop. I don’t want to hear it.”

He closed his eyes and laid his head back against the wall. What was next? We had a whole weekend together here; so were we just going to stay mad at each other or what? Crying out all that I could, I couldn’t cry anymore. “Well, what are we going to do? I still want to be with you Michael. You know that I love you.” He continued to say nothing as if I wasn’t sitting right there. I decided to quit wasting my breath and shut my mouth. We were quiet in the long hall way as our legs stretched out almost touching each other. I looked up once I heard a small laugh escape Michael’s lip. “This morning, I was prepared to come up here and propose to you….and look at what happened.” Even though he laughed, I knew he was still hurting on the inside.. “Tony…he um, he asked about you. Told me to tell you hi too. He told me that you were a good person M, and that your friendship was worth hanging on to. He spoke highly of you to me. Told me I better hang onto you before someone else did....." Michael fumbled with his hands as it was hard for him to get his words out. "....seeing him lay helplessly in that hospital bed made me think about life, and how short it is.”

I wanted to move closer to him but didn’t want to get rejected if he tried to move away from me. I listened as he finally looked at me. “Hearing about him and his fiancée being engaged, they looked so happy together you know? And that’s what I wanted for you, to make you happy….with me.” Giving in, a single tear slid down my face and I crawled towards him. “Oh Michael, you do make me happy, more than you will ever know.” I wrapped him in my arms as he laid his head against my chest. This was a moment that I didn’t want to end. I felt stupid, very stupid. May be if I would have told him, things probably would have gone better from there. He felt so good against my chest as he laid comfortably. Michael loosened his arms from holding himself and wrapped them around my waist; stopping first, to look into my eyes. Those chocolate colored eyes made my heart go out to him. He leaned up to kiss me, which is something that I could tell surprised us both; kissing my neck, then down to my chest made me forget about the distraught scene that happened earlier. Moans escaping my lips now, I felt my body laying back against the floor and Michael hovering over me. He laid soft kisses after kisses making my eyes close as he worked his magic. His tongue snaked into my mouth as he unbuttons my shirt with one hand. He truly was talented. I helped him out of his military style jacket, then took off his undershirt and flung it to the floor once it was off.

He parted my legs once my pants and panties were down to my ankles. “Michael.” I whined. “Shhhhhh.” He whispered to me before licking my earlobe. I was surprised at how the mood had quickly changed, but I wasn’t about to make a fuss over it. I wanted this to happen anyway possible. I heard him unbuckling his pants as he stared me right in the eyes before giving me one long passionate kiss; then he stopped. Michael looked down at me at shut his eyes tightly as a single tear slid from his right eye. “I’m sorry…. I can’t do this.” His voice was soft and low in a whisper that could only be heard if you were right upon him. I laid there panting, not wanting him to quit. But he did. He slowly rose from me and started gathering his clothes. I laid there in only my shirt and bra disappointed as I rolled my eyes hard trying not to let a tear fall.

The next morning, I rolled over and saw Michael getting dressed. He was still quiet since his state of mind was ensued with pain and hurt from the recollection of yesterday. Last night after the failed attempt of making love, Michael and I retrieved to the bed room and called it a night. Remind you that our attitude towards each other had changed, and we barley spoke as he lay on one side of the bed and I laid on the other. Insatiable about things not going as planned, I was determined to make it all better. But how? I had to take the initiative of doing so. I looked at him and decided that getting dressed would be best if I didn’t want to get left behind. “What are you doing today?” He shrugged his shoulders and didn’t reply for a while. His silence made things feel like we were on a bumpy roller coaster ride that no one wanted to be on. “I have an interview today, and that’s pretty much it? Why?” I went to look through my bags for something to wear. “Can I come with you?”

Michael’s hand reached for his neck as he started tying his tie when he thought about what to say. “If you want to. But I have to leave in the next 20 minutes, will you be ready by then?” I quickly nodded with anxiousness as I ran to the bath room to wash my face and brush my teeth.

Before I knew it, a limo was out in front awaiting for Michael and I to depart the beautiful town house. It was cold as we both had on our coats, and we could smell the atmosphere. There was a lot of sight seeing to do if Michael allowed it. I mean if he wasn’t that mad, then there was a possibility that this trip would end up better than what it had been going after all. We opened the front door and saw two limo’s idling side by side. One for Michael, and one for the rest of his crew. “Good morning Mr. Jackson, Miss. M.” The English style voice coming from Mr. Rupert. “Hey you two! You guys ready for a tour of the town?” His camera man yelled while he had the video camera rolling once we walked towards the car. Michael and I both plastered a fake smile on our faces only until we were along again behind the tint of the window. Decisive of if I wanted to hold his had or not once we were in the backseat, he did it for me. I looked up with an astounded look on my face; I smiled, and this time it was a real one.

Sight seeing on the way over to the BBC studio, the scenery made me wish I had a camera. All the different houses, hotels, restaurants, and the different bouquets had me jumping in excitement as I turned and patted Michael on the arm for him to look. He wanted to smile; I could tell that he did. But the indignity deep down wouldn’t allow him too as he continued to hold my hand.

We soon arrived to the studio where Michael had to be brought in from the back. I stayed behind with his manager and the camera man as the bodyguards and Michael walked ahead. Fans giving an advance notice had already made their way down here and were lined up to the Michael Jackson. He waved, shook hands, and had his picture take even when he wasn’t looking. Crew members of the studio greeted Michael as the finally walked through the doors. “Hello Mr. Jackson. We’re going to take you right over to make up and wardrobe. Is there anything I can get for you? Food, water, or a gift basket you might prefer?” A jittery teenage looking girl spoke a 100 miles per house as she beamed at Michael. He laughed at the attention he was getting from her. It was something he was use too, but it still became overwhelming at times for him. “No, no, I’m fine. Thank you ma’am.”

The studio had different segments with different sets all around; some rolling at the same time, and others that was starting or finishing. We walked to a small secluded area were we all sat down “Oh, is this your girlfri…” He quickly spoke. “No!” the girl looked from him to me. “Well can I get you anything ma’am?” I shook my head and gave her a smile. “Oh, wait….a telephone.” She pointed towards the direction of the phone. “Yes, its over on the wall.” I couldn’t be mad at Michael's response for the fact, one….no one was suppose to know that him and I were together, and two….well, I really didn’t know if we were still together or not. Michael turned to look at me with eyes suddenly turning to depression after the mention of me being his girlfriend. “I’ll be back.” He turned to walk away as he headed for the make-up chair. I continued to watch as he walked off reaching in his back pocket to pull out his shades.

An hour later, Michael was in his interview and I went to call my sister at a near by telephone on the set. I couldn’t hold it any longer as I had to tell her, and also to get advice. The phone rang for a few seconds the she answered. “Gabby.” She didn’t say anything as a loud exhale came from her end. “You told him didn’t you?” I nodded. “Yea, how did you know?” I looked around the studio to see if I could see Michael in his interview. He was no where insight. “They’re showing his interview live in the States…it’s written all over his face Marri. Poor Michael.”

Chapter 15

The interview was one of the worst and most frustrating things that I had to sit through. Telling me that it was going to be live only made it worst as the person who interviewed me over exaggerated about everyone who was going to be watching; which I didn’t have a problem of them doing so, but because of the mood that I was in after hearing devastating news that had changed my attitude. After being asked to remove my shades for the interview, I did so only wanting to refuse the request because of how I would look with the look of depression on my face. I even wanted to cry during the interview as I constantly licked and bit my lips when I thought about M and I and how things would turn out after we returned back to the states. I think everyone could tell that I wasn't myself, but I tried my best to hide it.

********

The fans chased the car as we pulled from the BBC studio to head to ‘The National History Museum.’ M and I looked at each other and laughed in excitement while Mr. Rupert continuously sped up as everyone running neared the car. I looked in the opposite direction as my staff had taken a different route to the museum after leaving the studio wishing we had followed them instead. May be it wouldn't have made a difference, because they still would have been after me. Really, I guess it could have been the adrenaline rush that had us going, but at that moment, M and I were sure now coaxing. Smiling at each other made me forget about the mishap in the past 24 hours; we stole glances at each other every other minute or so like we had always done. I bit my lip as I took off the shades and rubbed my eyes. “Are you tired?” M sat close enough for me to hear her whisper. I nodded as something loud and hard hit the window. We both jumped in exasperating surprise as a fan still ran along side of the car banging their fist against the window before finally giving up with the rest of the fans to stand back and watch as the limo continued to drive. I looked back at the window at the fan when I fell quiet and drifted off into thoughts.

Don't get me wrong, I was still upset and hurt deep down about what she told me. Married???? It was something I just couldn’t believe; I was supposed to be the one and only man she married. She was supposed to have my last name, not anyone else’s. Visualizing her face the moment she told me that she and Tony were married still got to me. We had always told each other everything, so how could something like this have went untold? I mean put yourself in my shoes and think about it; you would be hurt too. Me telling her that we shouldn’t be friends anymore, I didn’t mean it. I said it out of anger as I knew that it would hurt her just as she had done me. I didn’t want my family knowing about this, as I was sure it would have changed their perspective about her, but because she was still a good person.

I wanted to tell her to leave and to get out of my sight, but commemorating that we were now in London saved her. I didn’t want to hurt her, and I couldn’t; I wouldn’t allow my self to do so. Should I believe her? It’s not like she lied to me; she just didn’t tell me, which really did bother me; besides, it happened before I knew her, now that made me feel a little bit better. Oh gosh, and the sex thing.... that I really didn’t know if I should believe; her body didn’t seem to have been touched when we first made love. Her body... oh that damn body and the way she moves. No Michael! You shouldn’t be thinking like that right now, you’re supposed to be mad.

I turned around and looked over at M who was now nodding her head while in a daze as I had been as well. ‘What was she thinking about? I’ve seen that look before.’ “What?” I asked as she looked up at me and realized that I was now staring. “Huh?” She looked puzzled. My voice was now quiet and low; almost shy like. “You nodded your head. What were you nodding at?” She shrugged her shoulders along with the demented look that she had on her face. “Oh nothing, just thinking about a few things.” I let a wanly laugh escape my mouth as I turned my head away from her and looked out of the window. “What?” Now it was her turn to guess what was on my mind. The movement outside of the car drowned my ears as my eyes turned to her and stared her down like they would a delicate piece of cake before my mouth devoured it. “Nothing.” I decided since she wouldn’t tell me what was on her mind, I wouldn’t either.

We finally pulled up to ‘The National History Museum’ as my security and the rest of my staff greeted us at the front of the enormous building. It was now past noon, so there wasn’t much of a crowd to avoid. As we had done earlier, M stayed behind me with my manager while the security surrounded me leading me in towards the front doors. My first intent was to go over to the dinosaur exhibition since I had never been in here before; but passing by the library with the extensive book collection caught my attention instead. My entourage followed along as I walked over to a large shelfed case with books that I could drown my self in reading for days. I looked over to my manager who had turned around to one of the museum associates who was now following us. “I think were going to be in here for a minute; so if you could just have the area cleared, I’d appreciate it.” The man nodded his head as he and the rest of the associates gathered the remaining of the few guest to close off the section.

Curiosity had everyone wondering why they had to leave the area until someone screamed my name. “Michael Jackson!” Every body head turned as some tried to run towards me, but my security intervened as the associates had everyone turning to leave in the other direction. One associate turned to M who was a few feet away from me and the security. “I’m sorry madam, all guest must leave the….” “She’s with me!” I spoke before my security could. M looked towards the man and nodded in agreement. “Oh, my apologizes madam, do carry on.” He motioned his hand towards the area in the library and walked away with a different shade of red. M looked at me and smiled before walking off to be on a journey of her choice. I wanted to follow her for the fear she would leave out of my sight, but as along as she was where I could see her, then I was alright.

I walked over to the manuscripts and began flipping through the pages; they were filled mostly with linked architectural sculptures that I found fascinating. Flipping through the pages, I found one to my liking; it was a sculpture of a figure, a woman’s figure with no face and no arms, so I characterized it and pictured that it was M. I wanted to hold her, kiss her, make love to her; all the things you’re supposed to do when you’re in relationship. That was if we were still together. I guess the decision was left up to me since I was the one that was mad about the situation, but my feelings were the one hurt. Now I’m the one who is…well, M she also looked hurt as well. I remember looking at her face after my interview, her eyes were red and puffy, but her face was dry, which made me know that she hadn’t been crying, but that she was about to do so. As much as my heart was hurting, my heart went out to her. I wanted to tell her not to cry and that things between us would be ok, for the fact that my heart still belonged to her.

M was the only lady in my life, and that’s how I wanted to keep it. I didn’t want to be in a relationship and still have multiple of women’s like I saw everyone else did; she was special to me, and I loved her for that.

I looked up from the manuscript and realized that 15 minutes had passed by and I was still on the same page. I looked around to see that I was standing alone now since my security and staff went out by the entrance of the library. Where was M? She was no where in sight as I walked away from the manuscripts to look around for her. Rounding the corner of one book-shelf after another, I finally heard movement; M was standing behind one of the mantles that broadcasted a large book. She seemed focused on whatever it was she read, as the contents on the page had her interest to the point she didn’t hear me coming. “What are you looking at?” She jumped at the sound of my voice almost knocking the book from the mantle; her hand flew to her chest as the other hand covered her mouth. “Michael, gosh, you scared me!”

M took a deep breath to regain her composer. Her eyes now were trying to avoid mine as the startled look had already subsided while turning her attention back down to the pages. “Uh, I’m just looking at a few paintings…. um….nothing you’d probably be interested in.” She flipped the page again as her head was down focusing back to the picture in front of her. “How would you know if I’m interested or not? Is that your way of trying to get me to leave you alone?”

M’s eyes looked up as she thought about it. “No, I just… it’s not something you would be…” She stopped midway in her sentence as I walked from in front of her and walked behind her, close enough for me to smell the sensational scent of her perfume and hair shampoo. I was practically breathing down her neck as she dragged her attention from the book once again to look out the corner of her eye, watching me as if I was her prey. I put my hand on her shoulder as I peered over it to look at the book myself. Actually her clothing that she wore caught my attention more than what I saw in the book. She had on a black sweater that had been covered up earlier from her pea coat, and a pair of wide-legged pair of gray slacks. The shape of her body called my name to pull her closer to me. What do I say to her? I wasn’t at all interested in being in the library anymore; I just wanted to be in some other secluded area with her to talk to in private.

Besides wanting to be alone with her, I didn’t want her known as just a close friend anymore when we really were in a relationship. All the different women that I stood with in photo’s I just wanted them to be her; I wanted everyone to know that she was my mine. Hopefully in the near future they would!

Something mumbled from my lips that left both of us questioned for even I didn’t know that I said it. “What did you say?” Realizing that I had true enough said it, I repeated it again, this time with a little more ease to it. “I said I….I forgive you.” I finally my self breathe as I was glad that I said it and that she heard me. Yes, she was my girl, and like Tony said, I didn’t want anyone trying to take her away from me unless it was the Lord himself! I waited for her reaction as I stared down at her hoping and wishing that she accepted it.

“You do?” M voice shook as she spoke very low into the air that we both were breathing. “Yes, I do, I just….it still, hurts. Please, just promise me M, as soon as we get back to the states, go sign the papers or whatever it is you have to do to get it done, and let’s just put this all behind us.” She turned around and threw her arms around my neck. For a minute I almost felt my body wanting to resist, but my arms finally welcomed her hug as I squeezed her tight. “I promise Michael! I promise!” She looked me right in the eyes to show me that she meant what she said. Tears streaming down her face, I kissed them and then her lips as we stood like that almost feeling like forever.
